Getting a little tired of Biden and some others driving home the point that they wont send troops to Ukraine. We got that point crystal clear on day 1, so shut the fuck up about it. Zelenskyy is obviously pushing hard for that although he has not been saying it in a direct way, at least not anymore. He's having to resort to instilling inspiration to draw out the desire to go and help stop the fight. I'm sure he thinks Ukraine getting in the EU means he'll get troop help but that's not going to be the case. I get it that they are scared of starting WW3, but reminding the world they aint sending anyone in is not something people wanna keep hearing.

Actually it probably is something they want to hear. I don't think people's dislike for Russia has reached the point where people want to commit ground troops against another nuclear power.

I heard that speech as NATO recruitment. America won't let other nations invade NATO territory, so get signed up today and hit that subscribe button.

it sounds like kherson is now considered occupied by the russians, but the ukrainian government is still in place at the city center at this moment.

What I am struggling with, is how this can possibly end. None of the proposed "endings" people talk about seem rational to me. Some of the popular ones are "Putin just levels Ukraine and Russia never stops it" but... what then? He can't install a puppet because whoever he picks will be dead not soon after. He can't afford to stay in Ukraine for decades. The sanctions would kill his economy so hard he wouldn't be able to fund or build anything. I've also heard "There will be some sort of compromise where Russia gets to keep X but stops attacking and Ukraine promises to never join NATO and everyone else lifts sanctions" but... that too seems impossible to me because Russia would be the HUGE victor there, and they clearly are not doing well enough for that to be possible. The third, and often called least likely, is that somehow Russia topples Putin and... yeah, I just can't fathom that happening.

Do you all have any ideas? I just can't seem to envision any of them happening.

My personal hope is there are sane people around him who only followed/listen to Putin because hes giving them the promise of power and wealth and seemed like maybe he could achieve it, and once that façade slips away and they find out all he's doing is going fucking nuts and is at the risk losing all the while bankrupting them, well, he might not have the support of those people or his military anymore.

As for a realistic expectation, I have none, honestly don't know a realistic outcome here cause I don't know how nuts Putin is or how those in his inner circles of power view the current results, nor how realistic it is for the Ukraine to keep up this resistance. I hope for the best but honestly I dont know yet where this will go.

one would imagine the original plan was they'd be able to stroll in with minimal resistance and install a puppet regime.

now i'd imagine their new plan is to blow ukrainian to hell and have it become their main forward operating base for the day they can roll towards georgia again

I just can't picture a world in which they completely take over Ukraine while under these sanctions. Morale is shot, supplies are fucked, and aside from going max collateral damage I just don't think they have enough bullets to kill everyone they need to kill. They're going to run out, and I just don't know what happens when all that's left are nukes...

It's going to become another Afghanistan for them where they will retreat because they can't keep it occupied due to vigorous guerrilla resistance while also dealing with economic sanctions.

It will take a long time and there's a good chance Zelensky doesn't see the end of it.

You really think Russia's military will last long enough to make this protracted? With the attrition rates? They're sabotaging their own vehicles. Morale is fucked. Navy in Chimera are refusing to attack. Their air force is completely MIA. I don't disagree that in the very short term, Ukraine is very fucked, and Zelensky will probably die, but I just don't see Russia being able to sustain any of this when they can't even move their 40 km tank line an inch in a day. That and it doesn't account for the generals and oligarchs being bankrupt. That and the whole "Run out of bullets" scenario. I don't know, maybe you are correct, but I can't buy that Russia is going to be able to keep this up when every single day it's another story of "Random Ukrainian youtuber finds a tank and has a joyride." My only real fear is that after the bullets are gone, Putin will just go "Find, nuke it" and his generals will be too weak to prevent it.

    This isn't sustainable...

If history is any indication Putin will either die or be "exampled" if it drags out for much longer. He could likely keep this up for months. The second he escalates beyond use of what has been used already, like using nukes, is the second he hits the point of no return and one of those two scenarios happens.

there's a lot of premature celebration, antagonizing and underestimation/naivety around the size of russias military going on that i fear may not age well

i get that there is a propaganda war to be won (i guess), but if i was an ukrainian citizen i'd probably be thinking hey yall can chill with all that "poking the bear while you suffer zero consequences" stuff

Earth getting involved now. There's a snow storm coming right up on the eastern side.

    Also(from CNN so probably BS):

"US Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday said “everything is on the table” as the US assesses economic sanctions imposed on Russia for launching an attack on Ukraine and continued to stress the US will not send troops to fight Russian forces in Ukraine. "

That right there. We. Get. It.

As for saying he will financially burn out and can't keep this up, I really wish that was right now.

The yellow and red Countries. No surprise as most have links to communist regimes or To Russia.
