good analysis but ez on the 'lost it' business. war is still in a fluid indeterminate state but Russia is continuing to advance and occupy. i have some grave doubts about their long-term abilities to affect their geopolitic goals but no one has won or lost this war hitherto, and Russia is presently winning. whether or not their military success can overcome the economic devastation political, isolation, and heavy attrition, we shall see.

yeah the faster russia can wrap this up the better their chances are of being able to survive the economic pressures. if it drags on for more than 3 months i think they'll have to, if not fully pull out, at least draw new borders of the areas they'll be taking over in ukraine

if nothing else the sanctions probably did adjust russias time table for war because without they'd probably be able to continue for 6 months to a year of sustained war i'd bet

i didn't say they'd go away. i said there's going to be a limit of how long they can sustain war as a result of them

active war ain't cheap. russia has already used 500+ missiles in the span of 9 days. but putin does need some kind of positive result out of this if he wants any hope of staying in power, so we'll see what that timeline is

It's almost as if an unprovoked war and trying to assassinate the leader of another country, one who has been your neighbor for decades and your people consider to be basically brothers would be unpopular enough to trigger such leaks.

Putin is so fucking stupid, I can't believe anyone ever thought he was smart or brave. Ukraine has proven to be the exact set of circumstances to unravel his entire persona and sink his legacy: The exact opposite of what he wanted.
