Happens in every totalitarian regime. Hell, to a lesser extent, if businesses and college sports could do the same, they probably would. Nobody likes bad news. We hear all the time about reporters having to "kill" stories because so and so with big pockets called in and demanded it. This just takes it a step farther, from having to call anyone to have the story killed to straight up mandating that they never get written by means of imprisonment.
When you get to the point where you feel like jailing your own people for giving the news, you've become the villain. No matter what you think, you've become the villain.
