I mean, my comment wasn't really supposed to be taken 100% serious (I thought that was obvious from the "You're all babies" comment), but if you want to turn it into a serious discussion then you should compare it to US States, not the country as a whole, or are you saying the average American travel coast to coast on a daily basis? Yeah, oil may be one of Russia's things, but it's hardly a monopoly. Still the usual Middle Eastern oil and then what we can get here in the west, but don't, or sell off elsewhere. I think the question of having an emergency reserve and not tapping into it at times like this is a pretty valid one. But it's also not like the industry hasn't historically been like, "Oh, the barrel has gotten too cheap, let's not harvest more for a while to artificially reinflate prices..." as if folks still didn't need gas to live their lives. Anyone still thinking we're here because of stimulus checks is probably one of those fucktards that believed someone could've lived on them for 6+ months. The "Biden's fault!" thing just outs others as people not understanding how covid's fucked supply chains (and not because of mask/vaccine mandates) or individual workers waking up to their importance in demanding more pay or benefits that our multi-billionaire overlords still aren't willing to pony up. The disarray Trump left myriad systems in is also one of the frequently and conveniently forgotten factors. Those saying Keystone would save us are just ignoring its actual purpose, the consequences of ramming it through or why it was canned to begin with, and the reality it still wouldn't have been functional even now.

Mind you, I am one of those people that believes the cost of gas ties into the economy's health, with more affordable being better. $4/g wouldn't be so bad if we still weren't shackled to our plebeian minimum wage or even the outdated belief that $15/hr is enough. Those same wages are also still being weighed against food, rent, healthcare, debts, and what little fun we can glean out of this fiendish hellscape of a planet (where a lot of other countries have those factors mitigated to some degree). I may be able to live without going to a pizza place one night. I can't live if I can't afford a 20 mile round trip to a grocery store because lolruraltransit. And if you're like a lot of folks here with poor mileage trucks as your sole transportation, a trip like that is $4+ alone. The same or more is also likely being spent daily on commutes. Hell, it took $45 just fill our PT when things were floating at $3.30, and trying to explain why to my old man and that things were also about to get worse was one of those arguments that went about as well as one could expect when dealing with a cheapskate.

Otherwise just gonna treat this like early pandemic as best I can.

Instead of complaining Russia in its relation to gas prices, complain about capitalism and gas companies being some of the most profitable businesses in the world.

They could be charging $1-3 a gallon regardless of sanctions or what's going on in Europe and Asia... But they choose not to.

It's an artificial supply and demand issue. They are making people believe there is a shortage when there isn't.

This is what I say every time I hear someone tell me to think about the high gas prices as my price for opposing Putin. Like no gas companies are recording record profits and record compensation for their top executives. Gas prices are a result of greedy capitalism and nothing more.

Biden just said as such during his national address, which won't do much to curb Republicans going on blast that he's banned 5% of our imports. Gas jumped 0.30 from yesterday alone out here, for no reason other than companies reporting record profits enjoying their numbers going up.
