So update on Zuvendis (I'm not making any switch lightly so still here). Covenant has now taken a majority of the map, except Disappointment, an elite PvP company that only wants to PvP, and has no interest in land, has now broken off from the main covenant company taking over the map, as they cannot recruit while cov controls the majority of the map. As such, covenant is now beatable, as Disappointment is the high skill DPS and aren't in wars for a time. Marauders had a big new company come in from Valhalla, called Onion Gang, who push territories very hard and very often, and now we sort of have a competitive server. Purple and Green are probably fairly similar in power, and yellow without Disappointment couldn't even cap a single point attacking purple, and lost Brightwood when green attacked. Time will tell how yellow responds to this development, but I expect the idea of sister companies to take over the map by the main Covenant company to fizzle out entirely, and purple and green will each take one of them.

I merged my (small, mostly crafter) company into another one, and we're starting to grow in numbers and power to hopefully be able to take some land on our own. And hopefully with the upcoming changes to universal trading posts, makes the effort a worthwhile investment. We need some more purple companies to merge together though, as the faction is entirely too spread out, so we'll see how things end up in the next few weeks, but I finally am seeing some good things from the server.

Biggest patch so far happening roughly now. Who else is hyped for the changes coming? I can't wait to finally start grinding for some 600 weapons.

I was still playing, me and a few friends got to 60(4 of us total), but this patch really REALLY fucked it. It stealth nerfed a lot of things to a degree where we've put the game down for now. Which is a shame, the patch itself, reading the notes anyway, was fantastic, but they severely murdered endgame content by not only nerfing Elite Chests in endgame zones, but giving every Elite enemy about 3x~ more HP (or more, way more), as well as making the other endgame open world content (Rifts) scale based on the amount of people in the area so they're almost unplayable without a sweet zone of people and if someone else just wanders in RIP.

Elite Chest nerf was severe too, like going from 20-25 equipment per farm-route to about 3-4 maybe average, and the enemies take 3-4x as long to kill turning a 30 minute run into ~2hours, assuming you have the right amount of people to do it, it murdered the Duo/Trio group of friends approach and just encourages huge zergs (Which, BTW, every enemy is coded to only drop 10 item bags maximum so any zerg larger than 10 reduces your odds of getting loot). Really just fucked everyone who didn't no-life to HWM cap, IDK what they thought would happen but I'm sure like me and my friends many folks are just going to say fuck it and leave until its fixed.

Game already had a stale endgame progression system and lack of endgame content, now they've just straight up gutted the most accessible version of endgame content and progression. Ick indeed.

Edit: Also as a horrific precedent to set, they removed certain Perk combos from Weapons, and people are logging in to find their Legendary/Purple gear has been retroactively downgraded to Blue or even Green depending on what perks they just ripped from the items. So They decided to change how perks worked on weapons and just straight downgraded peoples already equipped gear.

I actually have some very different complaints/opinions than you. So far I mostly like the changes to elite runs. The gear was way too plentiful before, my first night of hard farming elite runs and I hit 2k repair parts (I make master kits with my spares often) and actually got like 800 weight in weapons/armor/reagents in a run. And I feel that's way too absurd. I run through those reagents easily enough, so the gear is the better one to cut off. Though a company member was saying this was an unintended bug, my read is they lowered armor drop rates so as to keep weapon+armor watermarks more in line with each other.

I also mostly like the proximity scaling, even though my group actually wiped out of Myrkgard the one night we tried. We basically decided we can't do that one as a standard 'zerg' of 10-15...and I think that's for the best. We'll have to go for that run when we have people better geared and ready for their A game, which I think is for the best.

I'm mostly annoyed by two major fuck ups this patch:

    1) Wars are unplayable. Status effects are apparently eating 10x the bandwidth they should be, causing wars to be so unplayable they've straight up stopped on my server. Influence simply isn't being pushed because the wars are no fun. Holy shit at this not getting fixed by now, too.

    2) Furniture still isn't trade-able. I'm more on the crafting side of things and I merged into another company with 2 major armoring trophies, when I only had 3 basic. I gave the company gov one of my basics so we could do a crafting run, and shit is locked now, so I can't get the trophies for my own use. I decided to just cap out my voidbent set so I really want to make myself some 600 jewelry and get ready to toss whatever is left of my money+mats at my weaponsmith once we get his pants to drop. I might be able to hit a full 600 gear score in the next week or so, but I can't even fucking craft because of this latest dupe BS they still haven't fixed.

I know once I do get to 600 gear score I'm far from done, as voidbent is a heavy ele armor set, so I have opals in it, and I really want to go back and craft myself a set of heavy plate armor with onyx so I can do some mix+match and get my perks I want, and then I'll make myself a fur-lined orich set with perks I want so I can pearl up my voidbent. And I hope a little after that is when 620 gear cap will hit. And also who knows how updates will change metas, and if I'll ever give some DEX/INT weapons a full try. So far I don't feel any good at dodging for survival, so we'll see what happens.

I’m not sure repair parts are the metric I’d use, but understandable.

Also I do completely agree with the PvP and war lag. Happens even in outpost rush. While
Outpost rush is still playable, wars sure aren’t lol.

Oh and the chest nerf is apparently a “bug”, which should be fixed eventually.

    https://www.newworld.com/en-us/news/...d-update-1-1-1

Game has been out for just over two months and they're already prepping for server merges.

    Greetings Adventurers!

This week’s update is focused on resolving some of the issues that have arisen from our November Update. Our development team is continually working on improving the New World experience and they thank you all for your patience and reports that you continue to make on the official forums. A full list of changes and fixes can be found below.

    Motes from Elemental enemies:
    • Fixed an issue causing a large number of motes to drop from elemental enemies.
    • We also removed elemental motes as rewards from gathering elemental creatures and reduced the amount of other resources acquired from them to account for the number of them in the world and the frequency at which they respawn. The original intention with these creatures was to make them challenging and infrequent encounters in the world. The way we used them in practice resulted in them becoming less dangerous and more frequent which caused an imbalance with the amount of resources they provided, compared to the primary sources such as elemental plants and stones.

    MISSING HORTICULTURE GEAR

In our latest update, we made a mistake that treated all tiers of the in-game Horticulture harvesting gear as future content, and unintentionally removed them from the game. We apologize for this bug that has caused you to lose some items you rightfully earned. If you have lost an acquired piece of Harvester Armor you should have an extra Rewards Chest in your Inventory after this update.

These reward chests contain a full set of Horticulturist armor provided at the highest Tier you personally have acquired in the past for any piece of the Harvester set. They are also rolling at the maximum Gear Score for that tier, and will be useable at any level to ensure you can equip them. These items are marked as Bind on Equip like any Harvester armor piece you would encounter normally. Once you open the chest it will provide you 5 items:
    • Harvester Hat
    • Harvester Shirt
    • Harvester Gloves
    • Harvester Pants
    • Harvester Shoes

    HOUSING
    • Re-enabled trading, moving, and salvaging of furnishings/housing items

    CRAFTING
    • Fixed a bug where Jewel crafting recipes were not granting enough trade skill XP
    • Recently we lowered the amount of trade skill XP provided by lower tiered items when a player reaches a new tier of crafting bases per skill. To use metal as an example, when a player unlocks Steel recipes they earn less from crafting iron recipes. We did this to emphasize crafting higher tiered items as you progress through trade skills and to also improve the value of higher tiered materials. Our intention behind this change is to reward players for crafting higher tiered items as they progress through the ranks of each trade skill. Before this change, we found players were spending too much time crafting low tier items as opposed to pushing their crafting skill up crafting items that they may actually use at their current level.

    TRADING
    • Fixed an issue where players were not able to fill Buy Orders from local Storage Sheds

    SERVERS
    • Technical groundwork for server merges
    • War performance enhancements

    GENERAL BUG FIXES
    • Void Gauntlet - Fix to Oblivion not going onto cooldown if player swapped weapons during skill startup
    • Void Gauntlet - Fix to consumable status effects being cleansed by Oblivion
    • Fixed an issue that was causing Jewelcrafting to not award appropriate amounts of XP for higher-tier crafts
    • Fixed an issue preventing players from earning the Lumberjack achievement

To be fair a little bit of that is from the extra servers the added launch week due to the demand, but still the list of things they keep screwing up is seriously impressive.

Everyone saying they need to do this and do that in order to save the game. Bitch, its not a monthly sub. They've already got your money.

Capping servers at 2000 imo really hurt them at launch. Then making server transfers region-locked.

Yeah I understand the hardware or architectural restrictions for servers, but when you have a brand new game (not having to rebuild over the festering husk of a shit game like XIV 2.0 to 1.0), you seriously need to figure out away to nail the basics before you go fanboying over your own conquistador helmets. The server size was pitifully low for a MMO, and they've been snake-bitten ever since. Its never a good thing when you have to open 300 new servers, because the time will always come when you have to close up 250 of them, and it always feels like the beginning of the end of things.

"Saving the game" isn't about just harvesting subs or even microtransactions. It's about guaranteeing the people who did pay for it can still actually log on and play when they want to (weeks/months/years from now). That said, online games shutting down isn't an uncommon thing and I don't think anyone should ever pay a box sale just to lose access later through no fault of their own.

Short of Amazon pulling an ARR, I'm not sure this game will truly last more than 18 months or at least avoid falling into maintenance mode where only the diehards just refuse to give up like remaining XI players running off nostalgia and sunken cost do. I imagine Endwalker's pending release is going to eat even further into their user attrition.

Yeah...so Zuvendis is once again dead, in a brand new way. The main PvP company of Covenant has gotten most of the Syndicate company leadership to dip out. They're all going Covenant, then server hopping to Eden. We're likely going to lose over 100 fairly frequent players. We're the top of our cluster in activity but I think this move may change that. I'm not going with this move, but Zuvendis is going to struggle hard now. OPR was fairly frequent most hours, occasionally losing queue time for a war or invasion, but like 12ish or more hours of matches a day. Server merges can't come fast enough, but with AGS's track record, they're going to have some major shit break and some horrific exploits will come from it or something.

I'll be surprised if XIV impacts New World in any major way. They're wildly different games. I actually think the three big name FPS games did more to siphon players (along with the major bugs they've had so far obviously) because the PvP nature of the game attracts the FPS types.

I don't know what I'm doing. My company is in control of a territory, but I think half or more of our daily players are going to be leaving. I may get "control" of the company/territory, but with what army to defend it? Not sure I'll have the people for elite runs, and elite runs are already boring, so really dunno what to do. I still want to keep playing, but I think I may be losing everyone I've been playing with so far.

So did anyone come back for Brimestone and/or Fresh start? I took a break but have mostly kept playing.

It's been tempting, from what I see anecdotally the playerbase numbers are picking up and people are generally positive about the direction the game is headed.

I came back right before Brimstone. The game still needs a lot of work, but it finally has an identity and direction. I personally find the combat EXTREMELY fun and deep. I have zero doubt the average person would get $40 worth of fun/time spent.
