Pretty sure the plan is one more season, but this was definitely written as working for either a season or series ending.

There's still some loose dangling plot threads, like William's scene at the end of season 2. If I had to wager a season 5 would basically be Dolores seeing if she could rehabilitate the copied brain of William, and if he can be redeemed then humanity is worth bringing back

Last season was a let down even though it had threads of good ideas in it. I'm glad it wrapped up in a way that could be considered a finale, even though it's a lame one at that. At least the stories are tied up for the most part. No pun intended.
