I wouldn't say no doubt. Even if they re-sign Edwin (which seems likely based on what I've read), if Bautista takes a reasonable offer I could see the team bringing him back and having him rotate DH with Edwin. He's the franchise leader in HRs and he can still hit. You can't use this series to bash him because the entire team has hit like garbage against the Indians and coming into the playoffs he was still hitting over .300 with RISP.

Of course teams have lost series after long layoffs. Teams have also won series after long layoffs.

I doubt it's a statistically significant impact, which is why I asked for data.

If the losing team has a long layoff, it's "oh they were rusty" and if the losing team had a short break it's "oh they were tired and the other team was well-rested." It's meaningless fluff.

I don't have any data but the Rockies did come to mind for me. Boston was down 3-2 to the Indians that year and had to win 2 in a row while the Rockies were off for 8 days I think. I still like Chicago or LA over Cleveland.
