I saw this thread and I must say:
The red wings are equally as entertaining to watch these days as watching John Keating do the intermission report.

They are a painfully boring brand of hockey right now

Maybe this year we can land something sexy in the draft.

They went what? 22 years straight in the playoffs? That's pretty fucking remarkable. Larkin and Nyquist who should be the 2 new up and coming stars on that team have been pretty non-existent for them this year. And the old regime of Zetterberg, Franzen, Kronwall, Datsyuk (who obviously already left) are really fucking old lol.

They want Mrazek to take the reigns in net but he's still pretty young for a goalie at 24. And then Howard has been putting up great numbers (1.86GAA and .937SV%) but is only 5-6-1. Given his numbers and that record should tell you all you need to know about how the team is doing in front of him.

Right now, I cant argue that.

The wings cant get in the offensive zone and set up.
Every shot comes from the rush. 1 or 2 and they're out.

Vanek and Nielsen look good though.

Howard is playing well.
But in my eyes, I still think that's just more reason to try and deal him.
Still probably wont get much because of the market and his contract. But at least his stock is higher than lower.

Going to be very interesting this year with the expansion draft.
I think we're going to lose AA or Mantha as a result
Currently, one of them has to be unprotected.

That sucks about AA and Mantha. Detroit would definitely protect Mrazek too, so if Howard plays well enough throughout the year you might also have to worry about possibly losing him for nothing too, depending on what happens to guys like Bishop or Fleury. So like you said, it might be better to try and trade him before then.

Ovie has full backing from Ted Leonsis though. Whats Bettman gonna do? Suspend them without pay while theyre at the Olympics? Sure, nothing wrong with that one, its expected. Suspend them further? Well, if he's upset that theyre in China, suspending them from NHL games after theyre back wouldnt really serve his purpose of getting viewers. Fine them? I'm pretty sure the CBA has clauses on what is and isnt fineable.

What will the owners do? "Fuck you Crosby, how dare you ditch us to play in the Olympics, were breaching your contract and youre off the team". Sure, but now they have to pay him his contract since I doubt theres a clause in there about leaving to play in the Olympics, and theres 29 other teams who will probably sign him.
