Don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy with Matthew Tkachuk and his 18 points in 32 games so far. He's a shit-disturbing, gritty, get in the other team's face guy who has great offensive upside and he fits in perfectly with Backlund and Frolik.

But everytime I see Laine score, I can't help but imagine the 'what if Calgary moved up instead of down' scenario and he was instead playing on a line with Johnny and Mony

Edit: I just noticed Tkachuk is tied for 3rd on the team in scoring and is also 3rd in (lol)+/- behind Engelland and Stajan. How the fuck is Deryk Engelland leading the team in (lol)+/-?

Laine is great but he's also playing on a line with Mark Schiefele feeding him passes and getting some pretty favourable deployment. Dunno if he'd be having the same success on a rookies line in Calgary (or anywhere else).

Yeah but I dunno if I'd equate a line of Monahan/Gaudreau/Laine to Schiefele/Ehlers (or Wheeler sometimes)/Laine.

Edit: The Matthews vs Laine thing is stupid and will forever be stupid. They're different players. One is a two-way elite Centre, the other is an elite goal-scoring winger. Winnipeg already has Mark, they were always going to take Laine. Toronto hasn't had a legit 1C in over a decade, they were always going to take Matthews.

And that Wild thing actually sounds pretty neat.
