Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was traded to the Washington Capitals by the St. Louis Blues on Monday.

The Blues will receive a first-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, a conditional second-round pick in 2019, an additional conditional pick, and forwards Zach Sanford and Brad Malone. The Capitals also acquired goaltender Pheonix Copley.

Somehow we also got Copley back in all this, who we traded there with Brouwer and stuff for Oshie. (not that Copley matters with all our other goalies) I feel like GMBM has dirt on Blues GM Armstrong.

Bk doesnt know hockey. Habs flipped 2 2016 second rounders for Shaw, you cant have two of your own second rounders.

However, when offersheeting a RFA, the picks you send back to the team youre poaching a RFA from, if they sign the offersheet, must be your own. Unless, of course, that was changed last CBA when they altered some of tge offersheet rules.

I realized after I asked that you definitely can trade picks that aren't yours because the Leafs have done it twice this season already.

The conditions involved in that Shattenkirk trade are tantamount to rocket science though.

This season is already a punt with how stacked WAS and PIT are. Can still make ECF if we luck into the Atlantic bracket. Don't have expectations beyond round 1 tho unless Hank posts a .945
