Why call a timeout when you can just fuck around with your lines and waste 30 seconds of the ref's time sorting out who is supposed to be on the ice anyway? What they should do is call that shit a Delay of Game penalty.

Why stop there? Give em 15 seconds to line up and drop the puck regardless if they're setup or not.

Why would that hurt the team that didnt ice the puck? The defending team is usually the one stalling and not ready. I guess they could just be fucking around on the other side of the ice lol

And then you have the actual faceoff which could still take time having guys get intentionally kicked out and refs fucking around with dropping the puck.

Mostly I just think a penalty would put a surefire end to the shenanigans.

guys have been injured so it's not really set, Schmidt has been scratched the last two games with everyone back though and Shatty is playing 3rd pair with Orpik mostly, and replaced on Carlson PP1.

Shore went into the crease on his own, then Orpik pushed him like an idiot but then Shore just stood there until the puck came to his feet and he smashed it in.

You do know a line change between both teams is supposed to take place in 13 seconds, right?
5 seconds for the away team, then 8 seconds for the home team to decide who to match with. Considering that on an icing one team cant change, 15 seconds seems more than plenty.

The refs probably dont enforce it to a T though.

Most teams usually just get a warning if they're derping around, or someone will randomly need to fix their skate to drag it out "legitimately".
I honestly can't remember a time the ref dropped the puck like "Fuck you, other team was ready. Too bad!" or handed out a delay of game for taking forever.

I can recall one delay of game penalty after an icing, playoffs, Caps' player's stick legit broke in half, he said it was broke, refs told him to line up, he literally put it on the ice and barely bent it to show them it was already snapped and the refs called him for delay of game.

I'm sure I prolly had like 10 posts shit talking the refs after that one.

If I was a GM, I'd get in shit because I'd open my mouth like "I propose a rule change that whatever gets called, gets called the same way whether it's October 23rd, March 9th, or May 17th." Because we've all seen how a flavor of the month rule change gets super enforced the first month, then relaxed, then forgotten about. From a play being "You Can't Do That" to "Nah, that's a legit slew foot. Totally legal."
