It's not about spending money, Chevy makes one trade every two years that isn't just an AHL player swap. He point blank doesn't do anything.

Maybe that's cause for years it was Syd Syd Syd and people like the idea of having something else to talk about that's not Sydney.

McDavid's a phenom too and I believe that lifting EDM out of their slump when no one else could deserves some talking about. Perhaps Syd is performing so well because he's "under the radar" compared to years past

I think people also pretty much expect Crosby to do what he does every season. People don't expect the rookies to do what they're doing.

Oh exactly, so for the past year it's been Mcdavid, McDavid, Matthews, McDavid, Matthews, McDavid - as opposed to the previous 10 that were nothing but Sidney, Sidney, Sidney, Random game vs Washington to hype up an Ovi vs Sid match, Sidney, Sidney? I won't deny Sid is the NHL's #1 player, just saying for the first time really since 2005 it's not 100% sid fellatio fest

    In other news:
Paul Byron has 20 goals, 19 of which were at even strength, tying him with other waiver wire pickups like Tavares, Skinner, Saad and nipping at the heels of Kreider, Carter, Pavelsi.

The fact that this is "normal" for a healthy sid to just dominate whenever he chooses shouldn't detract from his MVP candidacy, making a top 8 team a cup contender for the 10th straight year is no less valuable than turning a lottery team into a wild card "barely make it in" team ... I think mcd will eventually deservingly get an MVP but I don't think it should be this year

MVP isn't the best-player-in-the-league award though, it's the most valuable player, to their team. Would the Pens still be in the playoffs without Crosby? Probably. Would the Bruins still be in the hunt without Marchand? Hell no. Would the Oilers be in the hunt without McDavid? Probably not. Or Dubnyk and the Wild?

No one is saying Crosby isn't one of the best players in the league. They're saying the Penguins are stacked and his amazingness means less to the team relative to some other players' amazingness on their much more shitty teams.

I still stand by saying as far as Hart goes as MVP to their team, Talbot is a really close 2nd this year on the Oilers. Yeah, McJesus is doing it on the scoresheet, but Talbot's started every game except like 4 or 5? And let's face it, he's stolen some games for us. Take either one of those players away from us, and it's a completely different team. By that, I mean get your Patrick or Hischier jersey ready LOL

I mean, Karlsson should be a perennial Hart nominee but he plays for the Ottawa nobody-gives-a-fucks. Burns this year too probably.

Started all but 7 games, Talbot is up for MVP of my fantasy team if it's any consolation, mainly because I picked him 13 rounds after I took Holtby, just about equal in fantasy points but way more bang for the buck.

MVP is always an argument because different people all think different things about it. Some say best player on best team, most I think say best player on playoff team, others say best player period (luckily the NHL has the Lindsey so this is usually a smaller crowd), then there's the "player whose team is complete garbage without him" crowd argument, and any others I missed.

    Personally I usually go for someone who is either;

    having an absurdly/historically good season
    or
someone playing fantastic and whose team prolly would be nowhere near their current position without them but is still a good team.

Last season you thought he was done with hockey and this season you 'knew it would happen'. Funny how that worked out huh?

Why would any elite free agent want to sign a contract for his team?!?

I mean, it was a stupid thing to say out loud, but A) you can't really fault his logic, and B) there are much bigger issues dissuading people from signing in Ottawa than whether or not their owner lets them go to the Olympics if the league isn't shut down. They're in a shitty location, the arena is in an even shittier location, the owner imposes an internal spending cap, and the team is hella mediocre. Why sign in Winnipeg-lite for likely less money than you'd get elsewhere, to play for a team you know isn't ever going to go all-in because the owner is a cheapskate? At least Winnipeg has players for you to play with. Ottawa's #1 C is fucking Kyle Turris.

"It's not fair to our fans if were were to lose him to an injury"

"Maybe if it was a Canadian going to play for Canada"

What the fuck? Those aren't even one sentence apart.
