God the Kings were hot garbage for the 2nd half of the season. Thank god we give up nearly nothing for the trades. I think Kings net a 4th round pick overall after the dust settles.

I dunno how I feel about this. On one hand, NHL participation and the tourney is easily the best part of the winter olympics. On the other hand, the only way the NHL goes is if the IOC or IIHF or whoever pays the league an assload of money.

Ultimately, this whole fiasco isn't about promoting the game on a global level but Gary Bettman trying to get the owners of the league more money. And that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

"fuck you, no, if you go, you're in breach of contract, and you'll never play in this league again!"? I'm pretty sure the owners who are willing to let their players go to China will be pulling a Monty Burns at the prospect of elite talent being available. And whats Bettman gonna do? Ted Leonsis, Caps Owner, already said he gave his players permission to go and doesn't give a fuck what the league says. We'll see if he sticks to it, but I assume he does because he came out and made a statement about it himself.

Yeah, that was a solid by Leonsis; would expect him to follow through.

I'm still hoping the NHL is using this as a final posturing gambit and will reverse course when the IOC offers a bit more on travel / insurance / etc. costs. Owner group can still go fuck itself, but shit the CAN v USA 2010 finals was probably the best hockey moment in our lifetimes; I'll be happy if they just get it done, not matter how shitty their rhetoric is.
