I'm still hoping the NHL is using this as a final posturing gambit and will reverse course when the IOC offers a bit more on travel / insurance / etc. costs. Owner group can still go fuck itself, but shit the CAN v USA 2010 finals was probably the best hockey moment in our lifetimes; I'll be happy if they just get it done, not matter how shitty their rhetoric is.

The insurance and transportation costs were already resolved by the IOC. This is literally the league deciding it should be the only professional league in the world to BE PAID to allow its players to play in the Olympics.

Also this is a much better start in Buffalo than last week. Thank God.

In defense of Bettman's expectations...put your claws away, calm down...the NHL is the poorest of the big 4 NA sports.

This doesn't excuse their piss poor defense, but the playoff picture would look a lot different if Buffalo had them at the beginning of the year (or if Lehner could stop a shootout shot).

The Rangers get a bye because the Habs are irrelevant and from the shitty Atlantic division, therefor the Rangers will compete for the Stanley cup as they await the victor of the Metropolitan division.

As much as I can admire a player like MacArthur or Stamkos or whoever for working their butt off and trying to get healthy for the final stretch of the season, I can't help but question how helpful they'll be. I mean, you miss the majority of the season, a large chunk of which you were probably forced to sit and rest to recover, and while I'm sure they've got plenty of practicing in, have they practiced in an environment that matches the intensity of an NHL game, let alone games that have playoff implications?

The TL;DR point being; does them coming back actually help? Or would they be a hindrance after having missed so much time?
