Of the picks you listed, only Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly and Kadri are on the team. Of those, only Kadri and Rielly have been on the team before this season. So if you're asking me if I expected a team icing 8 rookies on a nightly basis to be in a playoff position with 2 games left, I will say no. But if your point is that teams who have missed the playoffs every full season for the last decade and a half have a lot of high first round picks, then congratulations Captain Obvious, you are correct.

We also didn't pick in the 2007 draft until the third round, so I have no idea who you think we took 2nd overall.

Doesn't matter what the issue was, the point is that there was an issue which is why expectations should have been (and were at the start of the season) tempered. There are plenty of reasons the team has been dogshit for over half my life. Surprisingly few of them are directly related to the actual roster. As the Habs have so eloquently illustrated over the last few years, you could have the best player in the world on your team but if your coach and/or GM is retarded, it's not going to matter.

While I didn't expect the Leafs to be in the playoff race, I did expect them to make a major jump when I saw Matthews/Nylander/Marner were all going to be on the team this year.

Toxicology report will confirm what exactly he took at time of death. He was head coach through end of last season but took a "leave of absence" this season for "personal reasons".

Bergevin is a pretty good GM, outside of his bromance for Therrien that may have hurt the team long term (shipping out Subban and Eller).
