It is absolutely amazing, and gives me hope. False hope, probably? But still hope!

In any case, I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with this administration. It may not be all the doom and gloom we've made it out to be... or it may be worse. Maybe he just said that climate shit to put liberals off-guard, you know? His cabinet does not lack for shady manipulative types who would do just that. We'll see.

He said what got him applause at rallies. You literally cannot take anything he says at face value, it's not how he communicates.

It's great that he's maybe backing off on climate change being a hoax, but what will matter more is his appointments to the EPA and as energy secretary.

There is such a huge contradiction between the things he is saying now and the cabinet he is assembling it is really amazing.
gives one hope really, especially if the trending rumors are true and his administration is headed by men like Romney and Mattis and not Carson and Giuliani.

I like this tweet storm because it really shows the average citizen can't influence shit. It took someone with the reach of a radio host to inspire the only meaningful action that she mentioned.

I talk to members of congress for a living. Unless you are a double max contributor they don't give a fuck. If your ask puts them at odds with the party, well that sucks too because they are beholden to the machine before they are beholden to their constituents.

So yes, pack town halls and get large groups of people to call into the district office. Just hope your party is in control because generally the decision on your issue has already been made.
So there's nothing to be done and everything is darkness? Become a community organizer or random guy with a voice synth machine and a lot of time? Also, what if I already live in the bluest district in the country and there's essentially nothing I can do locally? Should I be harassing Michigan offices?

The conflict in my brain with respect to hope is that while him backing off on a lot of this stuff and FINALLY explicitly condemning the alt-right movement is that he isn't backing it up with respect to his cabinet appointments. On one hand what he is saying gives me hope that he is paying attention on the other hand he is surrounding himself with terrible people. And on top of that I think he will say and do anything to stroke his ego and get peoples approval which makes some of these things feel empty.

The amount of corruption (literally using his president-elect status for personal gain) that Trump has already engaged in, and will assuredly continue to engage in will be staggering.

Maybe. Long as the next candidate doesn't use emails. Or have a vagina.

If he pulls a Bush 43 and sends out a Stimulus check, they will care even less than they do now imo.

Why would we want him to be successful at, say, establishing a Muslim registry or building a wall between the US and Mexico or backing out of the Paris climate change accord or expanding stop-and-frisk or instituting 35% tariffs or prosecuting Hillary Clinton for, uh, something?

Most of the things Trump has professed that he wants to do are things I want him to fail at.

He's in the right place with the overall sentiment but yea, may not want to conflate Trump's "success" with the country's.

Trump's goal is to feed his ego and make money.

in the same vain as Archi's sentiments, one can certainly hope for his success in the objective betterment of the country, but there are plenty of things that he could do "well" that stand to posit him for reelection while being destructive for our nation on the whole

I know you're aware of this, but it bears mentioning when we're speaking of his "successes" as a leader

Here’s the problem: Trump wants to have his children tend to his assets rather than liquidating his assets and placing them in a blind trust. But he also wants his children and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to help him be president.

It’s already proving untenable and even Trump allies like the NY Post Editorial Page are calling for a remedy and suggesting that it will need to be more than just a change in title for his children.

Remember, that the allegations against the Clinton[s] were that even if they did not demand [some form of pay] from people doing business with the government, the presence of the foundation sent the signals that pay to play was the order of the day.

Trump declared Monday that voters don’t care about these matters: “Only the crooked media makes this a big deal!” But he knows from his campaign how powerful these kinds of corruption charges can be. And if they would be all the more potent if larded with claims of hypocrisy.
    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016...osecution.html

During his victory speech, Trump pledged he’d “rebuild our infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none.” He added, “We will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it.”

When President Obama tried to deliver on a similar promise, Republican lawmakers fought him at every turn, making their deep-seated dislike for government spending known.

Yeah, I know it's Fox News. I'm kinda interested to see what some over there have to say about all this though. In any case, I'm really curious how the infrastructure stuff will pan out.

Fox News calling out Trump and Republicans has to be the weirdest aspect of all of this.
