I blame our public education system. Spend 13 years telling children that a good teacher should make them want to learn and any lack of interest or performance on their part is the teacher's fault and they'll become adults who think a good boss should make them want to work. I'm so glad my poor, brown, inner city kids have no illusions on that front.

This is an issue I see on some levels of the community college I teach at, which is a struggle from me (I grew up raised by old school grandparents that dealt with the civil rights era): On one hand you do have some *highly* intrinsically motivated people by virtue of it being a community college (people working multiple jobs or people who have come back after a hiatus and value the education), but the whole 'edutainment' bit just really upsets me.

The funny thing about the america thing is Trump could literally pull the same move old shows would do where they would run a contest for a name submission and just wait for someone to guess it.

To be fair, it wasn't mods that banned those 2 it was just users who've donated to the site using up their 30 day ban hammer.

They're 30-day bans, and the mods have literally nothing to do with it. We don't even get a notification. Iirc, whoever has one just sends the admins a PM with the name of the person they want banned, and then the admins ban them. I find out about it at the same time you guys do.
