This is an issue I see on some levels of the community college I teach at, which is a struggle from me (I grew up raised by old school grandparents that dealt with the civil rights era): On one hand you do have some *highly* intrinsically motivated people by virtue of it being a community college (people working multiple jobs or people who have come back after a hiatus and value the education), but the whole 'edutainment' bit just really upsets me.I blame our public education system. Spend 13 years telling children that a good teacher should make them want to learn and any lack of interest or performance on their part is the teacher's fault and they'll become adults who think a good boss should make them want to work. I'm so glad my poor, brown, inner city kids have no illusions on that front.
