Going over the full press release, MC is no longer a US-based company. The company is now headquartered in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Having chatted at length with long-time company spokesman Alex Verrey, I can confirm: Mad Catz is coming back this year. According to Verrey, nearly all the company's assets were swept up by a Chinese holding company that wanted to keep the brand alive.

It turns out that the Chinese holding company that's rescuing the Mad Catz brand from near death is composed of people who worked for the company's Chinese factories. They saw an opportunity to keep doing what they'd already been doing -- but now they'll be working for themselves.

Now known as "Mad Catz Global Limited," the firm's starting by reviving products that were already in development at Mad Catz before the company shut down last March -- and it's using the same exact factory tooling to pump out the same parts.

Their PC accessories have always been ugly. I think its the exact same shit, to be honest. Looks like some idiotic Chinese group bought their leftover stuff and is trying to sell it lmfao. This has to rank up there with the dumbest moves ever, in the gaming industry.

This is like if Logitech ran into some tough times, went under, and then was rescued at the last second... and returned to produce console gamepads, tablet cases, & PC speakers, but no mice or keyboards whatsoever. The business plan is fundamentally nonsense.

I don't know if the first 20 years of MadCatz's existence - where they had an ongoing bare-knuckle competition with Pelican Accessories for The Cheapest Third-Party Controller On GameStop's Shelf - was technically more profitable than their last ten years of making reference-level console fightsticks, and honestly it doesn't even matter. The pre-fightstick MadCatz is not a company worth resurrecting. The Mad Catz brand still has significant value in the FGC, and there is a small window to reclaim that value before Qanba completely consumes it.
