the full reveal is scheduled for tomorrow. still, the fact that they're waiting pretty much right until the season actually starts to go into detail on it does not strike me as a good sign.

We want players and fans to easily be able to see who is in the running for Capcom Cup at any time by simply going to the Capcom Pro Tour leaderboards right here on this website. The root of much of the confusion around who was qualified for Capcom Cup in previous years came from the auto-qualification system. This new method of qualifying players through points will eliminate the need for complex breakdowns of which players are in and which players out.

Note: Regional Finals will grant an auto-qualification spot into Capcom Cup 2017 under all circumstances. If the player who wins is still not in the Top 30 of the Global Leaderboards after the 400-point boost, the qualified list of players from the Global Leaderboards will be reduced by one, moving the bottom player out of contention.

Not that I disagree with the end result, but they are trying to eat their cake and have it too.

I am also puzzled as to why the CPT Asia season does not appear to have a single event in glorious Nippon.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Japan still has restrictions on for-money tournaments that other SEA countries don't

CPT 2016 had three events in Japan, one of which was a premier event. Regardless of what restrictions there may be, they didn't seem to be a problem last year.

I don't know how to feel about that.

It's good that real FirePro is coming back, especially after that abortion that was the XBLA avatar game. But the good thing about the 360 game was that it was finally 3D. While I understand the value of 2D sprites, an isometric wrestling game is not the hill to die on for that art form.

If the avatar game used the actual FirePro engine, it would have been fine. It seems like Spike can't let go of their 20-year-old art assets and thinks slapping a filter on them is the permanent solution.

btw FirePro S is still the best wrestling game ever

Tangentally related, Chocoblanka wrote a pretty solid piece as to why Japanese players are signing on to foreign teams and competing abroad rather than at home. Japan's lack of push for eSports and similar competitions is one of the big ones.

but load times are redic super fast getting in and out of menus compared to 1minute delays in ps3 days...

i bought it so i could learn how to play marvel on a pad assuming infinite will follow ABCS button setup...
