Same shit why fast internet and 4G isn't everywhere: not cost effective to build the infrastructure for so few customers.

All true, we are basically specifically supposed to NOT have fast trains.
It's really shitty that all the rail outside the northeast corridor is owned by freight lines because even scenic fun train rides like the Cardinal, Southwest Chief and Empire Builder are subject to huge delays and stoppages due to track rights.
I live in Manhattan and have only one option for internet, and it's not fiber
They also give him like $50-80 a day for food when he gets sent there and he makes baloney sandwiches in his room and pockets the rest. I know the savings probably work out to a lot but it drives me crazy every time I think about it.

I've been on a train one time from Cincinnati to denver, trip over there was 5/10 meh. On the way back though it sucked some lady standing too close to the edge of the platform under it and ran her over, the baby she was holding miraculously bounced under the train between the tracks.
The train was stopped for hours before they made us all get off and ride a greyhound bus back to Cincinnati and this was all on thanksgiving.
0/10 trip will never ride a US train again
Jesus christ. I wouldn't after that.
I'd like to ride some of the lines in the west of the country, but you do really need to be free and unburdened for longer than most of our lives presently allow.
A former coworker hopped on that Empire Builder west from Bismarck and loved it.
Per diem is per diem, they don't actually require you to spend it.
