can you imagine if the cephalopods were to join their strength to the cetaceans?
the Last Alliance of Men and Dogs wouldn't stand a chance.
Yes, I can imagine, and boy do I like the sound of that. It's got epic, three movie series written all over it. The cetaceans are clearly the special forces who infiltrated theme parks and aquariums of their human targets decades ago. When the cephalopods begin their assault from the sea the cetaceans will strike key infrastructure targets deep inland in enemy territory, crippling their ability to fend off the aquatic invaders. Wait to you see the blue whale assault ships roll up to the beaches...shit's gonna be epic.
This writes itself it's so good. Who do we get to direct?
peter jackson, but we keep him on a tight leash. the less he strays from the source material the better.
Michael moore or Al Gore, obviously
A fun documentary on our future eight armed overlords.

I was thinking Neill Blomkamp for a District 9 kinda feel but this is an excellent choice.
Good news everyone!

With India and China roaring like they are, I'm not convinced we can prevent 3 or 4 degree rise by centuries end. Just buy land in the midwest for your grandchildren to enjoy. Instruct your kids to sell the house in Miami in about 30 years.

Don't worry, we'll just send thoughts and prayers to everyone swallowed up by the ocean.

How much of climate change is man-made, and how much is it a rebound from the last ice age? I thought the original story was excess CO2 was a greenhouse gas that was warming the Earth, but that seems to be no longer the case, as some areas are getting colder while some are getting warmer.
Cool, so mass war as we fight for resources on a dying planet.
As long as share prices are up tho amirite?
At what point were you under the impression that humans haven't always been at war of resources with one another?Cool, so mass war as we fight for resources on a dying planet.
It's a net gain in temperatures, but global climate patterns changing does mean that in some places they experience lower temperatures.
To answer your initial question, changes in the past 100 years are almost entirely from human changes to the atmosphere.

Agriculture is also a massive factor in greenhouse gas emissions. Methane from livestock, particularly cows, contribute to the problem as much if not more than cars.
Here's a good example of how fucked we are. Globally, use of coal, oil, and natural gas are all higher than ever before.
On top of that, half the people in the world still don't have sufficient access to electricity, and 1.2 billion people have no electricity at all.
Not only do we need to power the world by completely different sources, we need to provide far more power than we currently are.

If you were picking between two views:
1) Believing climate change is man made
2) Believing that it would have happened anyway
Then 1 is almost entirely true and 2 is false.
If you went through your brain and threw away all of the questioning "but what if it wasn't us tho?" rhetoric from the last three decades, you will be much closer to the truth than attempting to slice a nuanced "would the earth have cooled or warmed if there had been no industrial revolution?" take thinly enough that you mix in enough #2 to nail it exactly right. Refer to the hockey stick chart in the OP to get some intuition about this. The increase being due to humans has been settled science for the last decade.
Worth noting, though, that it doesn't matter. Even if we assume it was some natural process, the impacts on the environment would be the same and still terrible. We should have been taking efforts to stop the global warming even in the absence of evidence that we caused it. The fact that the globe is warming has been settled science since the late 80s/early 90s and even made its way out into pop culture before the new millennium.
The current GOP line is that they believe climate change is real, but it's too far gone to matter.
Just like they believe Christine Blasey Ford was sexually assaulted, just not by Kavanagh.

This would be more like if they believed that she *was* assaulted by Kavanaugh, but then threw in a "but it doesn't matter! It's in the past!"
