It's California. Trying to develop any open area into any sort of residential or commercial use gets hit with lawsuits.

In fact, the area where the Woosley Fire erupted would have probably just finished developing about 5-10 years ago with around 3000 houses. (Reference: http://www.ahmanson.org/)

Not to mention there are preventative measures to help mitigate - not eliminate - fire risk with mandatory brush clearance. It could have been a lot worse if home owners didn't do their due diligence to clear brush. It's also why the fire hop scotched across properties since for most of the cases roofs were catching fire and not the brush on the properties.

As someone about to replace a roof on a home in California, it seems wild that having a fire resistant roof isn't mandatory.

How hot are these fires? Cause I'm here working in a lab testing for asbestos and I'm ashing the shit out of these roofs samples like its nbd. I cant imagine many normal roofing materials can survive what I'm assuming is around 2000 degrees farenheit.

P.sure 'flame resistant' roofing is just meant to make it harder for the random floating ember to catch your roof on fire. Any actual heat from a proper fire is still gonna fuck up all the things.

I was gonna say, cause if we really want fire proof roofs well then...let's make them out of asbestos cause that's about the only fibrous materials that's gonna survive lololol
