But this was on the front page of nationwide news? I heard about this on CNN.
On a side note a couple of days ago California announced they would stop the new sales of ICE vehicles by 2035 I think. A few days later they released a statement asking people not to charge their electric cars due to an impending heat wave so the grid isn't over taxed.
Not meaningful necessarily but pretty funny and not a good look.
Not to charge them (or use other high electricity load appliances) between 4-9pm yes
The duck curve is quacking again
I was going to say the messaging is misleading on charging cars. Most Californians are bombarded with "reduce energy use between 4-9pm" even when we're not in a Flex Alert.
If anything, CALISO probably wants cars being charged between 10am-2pm so the system doesn't get overcharged. The state's energy operator is already paying Nevada and Arizona to take our excess solar energy during peak production times so the grid doesn't explode.
It'll be ok, we'll just build more solar
really wish my house AC could keep up, it's 81 in here and rising and it's been running straight through since like 11 a.m.
I didn't have enough money to replace the windows when we bought the place and now it would be such a huge expensive hassle it's not worth it, but single pane everywhere means this house is pretty inefficient.
I guess one more little bit at what the state energy regulators are asking. They recommend households blast their A/Cs prior to the 4pm Flex Alert time to pre-cool the house. Go buck wild. Just conserve between 4-9pm is all.

But the doomsayers will latch on to "dOn'T cHaRgE yOuR cArS" because reasons.
PG&E has been hot dog shit for so long with their shitty power grid directly leading to deaths from forest fires or power outages, yet they just keep on keeping on.
Where is Erin Brockavich?

The provider for the New Orleans area (the name currently escapes me) is really really bad as well. Even without weather being a factor would have random brownouts and losses of power for basically no reason. And their timeframe to restore power after hurricanes is atrocious.
At least it was dirt cheap though, as opposed to the state of California which just rapes you on energy bills.
I swear half our energy bill's are just to pay their fines

it's almost as if utilities are a natural monopoly and private-public partnerships don't work as well as people pretended in the 80s
But Byrth, how would all these utilities INNOVATE without CAPITALISM's greatest built-in feature of COMPETITON?!
We've already painted the exterior and skim coated and painted the interior, replacing these old iron windows would require patching and painting around each opening inside and out, it would be a massive 5-figure undertaking to save, what, $30-40 a month maybe?
And my wife likes the old look, so it's not going to happen.
You coulda just said the last part haha
