The bigger problem is this type of fusion produces tons of neutrons - particles that can't be controlled with electromagnetism, so they are constantly barraging the walls of the reactor, degrading them rapidly. It's a very difficult issue that needs solving before this can scale meaningfully.

People may make jokes but I don't know if they understand how big of a deal this is. I find it really exciting! I put it right up there with splitting the atom, breaking the sound barrier, etc. No, it is not feasible yet as far as generating energy for practical everyday use but in fifty years I think we will see the first fusion test plants come online.

California is now reducing the subsidy for rooftop solar installations that will go into effect on April 2023. Excess energy sale rates will also decrease.

The money that was going into solar installs and household excess energy sales will instead be pumped into subsidizing household batteries and energy storage installations.

Arizona doesn't have the groundwater to support it's residents. A suburb outside of Scottsdale was recently cut off affecting roughly 1k people. A land development outside of Phoenix where 10k homes were in the process of being built learned there isn't water to support it.

I dunno what the right way to do this is, but we need to start finding a way to communicate the capital costs of making renewable energy sources in their creation.

Like if we create a windmill, cool. But if the windmill itself was made by non-renewable energy and non-fungible or renewable materials, we need to be able to define that.

The goal of being able to compare green sources against each other and non-green sources

I did a little searching and some math.

They claim it can power a, "small neighborhood" and it stores 120,000kWh of power.

I don't know what people would consider small but let's say 12. According to the US Department of Energy an average household in the US uses an average of 886kWh a month and by their own admission that is conservative. It's probably well over 1k. But let's go with that. So twelve homes using 886kWh a month. That works out to 127,584kWh in a year. So this thing could almost fulfill the entire neighborhood's continuous energy needs for a year?

Sounds too good to be true.

The writer of that Tweet goofed. 120KWh is reasonable, 120,000KWh isn't.

Would be nice. Would you also factor in maintenance costs/frequency of maintenance required as well?

The rated operating temperature is -40⁰F to 140⁰F.
I'd like the see the efficiency rates on said battery arrays when it nears either extreme. I figure a heaping large pack of batteries would generated enough heat on their own when under use + being charged, assuming these can last years before being thrown at the recycling center and then paying out the ass for replacements. I can see this kind of thing being great for rather remote locations, but I doubt said villages can even afford such a thing.
