I think I've figured out what they are trying to aim for with the graphics. I noticed it when I was looking at the Collector's Edition figures and it was followed by a picture of one of the DLC costumes; for a moment, I thought it was a really strange-looking action figure.

Going back and looking at the pics, if you look at them as simulated plastic action figures then the aesthetic is... consistent, I guess? I wouldn't call it good, but it's an art direction.

    Press Release
    Spoiler: show
Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced a Hulk-sized helping of new information for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the highly-anticipated return of the revered action-fighting game series. Imagined and created through a shared vision between the two companies, the game will feature free-form 2v2 team battles integrated into a wide variety of exciting and accessible single player modes and rich multiplayer content for new players and longtime fans alike. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will simultaneously release on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, and Windows PC across North America on September 19, 2017.

For the first time in franchise history, the Marvel and Capcom universes collide in a visually stunning and immersive cinematic Story Mode, as heroes and villains battle together to save their merged worlds from a sinister new threat, Ultron Sigma. A combination of the robotic foes known as Ultron from the Marvel Universe and Sigma from the Capcom Universe, this psychotic villain is obsessed with infecting all organic life with a cybernetic virus. History’s greatest gathering of warriors must now unite to fight back against Ultron Sigma and save their newly formed world.

Announced today, more new characters have joined the battle for survival against the forces of evil in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite including:

    • Ultron
    • Hulk
    • Thor
    • Hawkeye
    • Rocket Raccoon
    • Chun-Li
    • Strider Hiryu
    • Chris Redfield

Each newly-added character will feature unique abilities, iconic special moves and will join other previously-announced characters, including Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Captain America from the Marvel side, and Ryu, Mega Man X and Morrigan from Capcom. The use of powerful, game-changing Infinity Stones further deepens the customized gameplay and allows players to equip and unleash elemental in-game powers, such as Time, Power and Space.

In addition to the compelling cinematic story experience, single player Arcade, Training and Mission modes and vast multiplayer offerings will provide memorable experiences and infinite gameplay possibilities for players of all skill levels. More characters, stages, game features and story mode details will be revealed in the coming months.

Pre-orders for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite are available beginning today on all platforms for the $59.99 MSRP Standard Edition and $89.99 MSRP Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes the main game on PS4 or Xbox One and a 2017 Character Pass, which contains access to six all-new additional post-launch characters including Sigma, the main antagonist from the Mega Man X series. Pre-order bonuses for all versions in North America include Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu costumes. Check with individual retailers for details in Europe and Australia as some offers may vary. The pre-order bonus for the Deluxe Edition is the same as the Standard Edition, but also includes two additional costumes: Gladiator Hulk and Mega Man Command Mission X. For specific details, please check with individual retailers.

Capcom also confirmed today that a limited Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Collector’s Edition, brought to you by TriForce, is available now for pre-order on PS4 and Xbox One. It will include four premium character dioramas of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man X and Chun-Li, a case filled with six Infinity Stone replicas, as well as SteelBook packaging that contains the Deluxe Edition of the game, all for only $199.99 MSRP. That has air dashes anyway. To be honest, the game play doesn't look as terrible as I imagined, but this shit could totally run on a phone. It looks like it is all auto-combos and easy hypers though, which is total fail.

Maybe it is being designed to run well on a Switch lmao.

All I got out of that video was that I'll probably end up muting the game. And in typical Capcom fashion a ton of recycled shit.

The voices and moves (watch Hulk for instance) are like 100% copy/pasted from MVC3 lmfao....

Looks a lot better than what I expected. I'm going to assume the auto combos are an entry level mechanic that are pretty much worthless if you take five minutes to learn a true bnb; similar to what other fg's have done in the past.

I feel like with the way stuff was in the video, there may be some placeholder soundfiles and shit in there maybe? that's obviously just looking on the possible bright side.

I don't see how it looked much slower? There's some neat stuff going on amongst the gameplay.. I really liked the part where Ultron cubed someone and tagged in Strider for his Hyper.

Obv too early to say much though. I think the HUD and the characters are booty ugly and it looks like it could probably run on the Switch or a phone, BUT the gameplay looks at least kind of interesting, dial-a-combo aside. I mean.. it's probably similar to abc launch, abc launch lol.

    Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite

Meh. I don't really care about the reused animation and voices. MvC2 and CvS2 both used sprites that were 10+ years old at the time lol.

    Looks better in motion.

Faces still look busted and the UI is uninspired. I assume this can be fixed in polish phase.

However, if this new input crap is real and not just easy mode like in UMVC3, tables will be flipped.

    Initial thoughts:

Resets are back to MVC2 style. OTGs are back to MVC2 style. Sweeps are hard knockdown again. THERE IS A BURST MECHANIC IN THIS GAME (Counter Switch); it costs 2 meters to tag out in the middle of your opponent's combo.

Apparently, it does not cost any resource to tag mid-combo (Active Switch), nor does it cost a resource to use your gem. Power is wallbounce, time is teleport (air)dash, space is like Magneto's Attraction. Gem meter is a SF4-style revenge meter, but you can Gem Factor before it reaches the halfway point(?)... not sure how this works. Space Gem Factor cages the enemy (like being cornered midscreen) but the cage moves vertically during combos.

Chris has limited ammo (for magnum?). Ultron has his own assists. Ouroboros is 1 meter again! (but you still can't build meter during) Either Ant-Man is in the game, or they want to make room for him, because Hawkeye's LV3 is same action but different cinematic.

Yipes noted that when doing air dash crossover, you turn around and reorient.

This is a strange criticism to make about a Marvel game, as all Marvel characters had "copy/pasted" voices and normals for the first 6 games in the series. Stop '09ing.

Additionally, it is no coincidence that the MVC3 voice actors were the same ones in Avengers: EMH. Marvel gives Capcom direction on the voice casting.

It is a valid complaint. Marvel is supposed to be very big now, and Disney has enough funds to make new interesting assets if they wanted to. Doing a crappy recycling work in the past doesn't justify it being done now.

That said, and not being a Marvel fan, the game looks Marvel to me when in motion, and actually looks interesting. The art direction is still crap, but at least in motion you notice it less.

Rewatching some of the auto-combo parts and I'm convinced it's like P4A.

At first glance I actually had the same thought as Nitsuki that it feels slow to me.
