LOL, somehow i knew you were gonna say that, when Capcom were the first ones to charge us $80+ for an SF2 cartridge that included the 4 boss characters. Patient Zero indeed.

ITT: SF2 Turbo was actually just a DLC addon

The proper ArcSys analogy would be if Capcom sold you WW, then made you buy Balrog and Vega, then sold you a separate HF cartridge with Balrog/Vega/Sagat, then made you buy Bison.

The smart man's rebuttal would have been to point out that MVC2 made you pay to unlock "on-disc" characters in the arcade nearly 20 years ago. Alas, it is nearly 20 years too late to declare how greedy and unfair this is.

Yet you totally ignored street fighter x tekken which came out before xrd, having 6 on disc dlc characters that get released months later. Ok. Also, for guilty gear, i understand what you mean, but you haven't taken into account that the characters were free to download for the first week.

    FYI

If you just ignore it, fighting game threads become much more bearable.

BlazBlue was stealing players' money long before SFxT and Xrd existed. It is the Typhoid Mary of DLC/paid revision abuse in the online console era.

With the sole exception of (U)MVC3 (whose development timeline was messed up by the tsunami), Capcom sells you DLC characters or they sell you paid updates, but they don't do both like ArcSys.

    You're not wrong.
But if we're being honest, Capcom is one of the best FG companies in this regard (SF5 has no paid updates and every character can be earned with in-game currency) and ArcSys is pretty clearly the worst. So when people heap praise on ArcSys and bash the hell out of Capcom, and DLC/paid updates are rarely mentioned as factors, what do you expect the market to do?

    New Details
Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today released an all-new cinematic trailer that highlights never-before-seen elements of the story mode experience featured in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. The action-packed trailer expands upon the key plot points, with heroes from both universes coming together in an attempt to stop Ultron Sigma from infecting all biological life in the newly merged Marvel and Capcom worlds.

More playable characters in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite have been recently confirmed, including Jedah, Dormammu, Firebrand, and Ghost Rider. Additional information and gameplay details on these four characters will be available next week, in conjunction with the Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany. These newly added characters bring the final roster at launch up to 30 characters, with more post launch characters to be revealed in the future.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite will provide memorable experiences and infinite gameplay possibilities for players of all skill levels. The next evolution of the popular action-fighting series will arrive action-packed at launch, with a variety of accessible single player and multiplayer offerings including:

    Offline Modes and Features

    • Story – Puts players at the center of a fierce battle as heroes from both universes come together to stop Ultron Sigma, the combined form of two robotic villains.

    • Arcade – Recreates the classic arcade experience. Keep winning to move forward and confront the final boss in an epic showdown of skills.

    • Mission – Players can do various tutorial missions, or try their hand at advanced character-specific challenges.

    • Training – Set up a training area with various parameters and hone skills to improve fighting abilities.

    • Vs. Player 2 – Go head-to-head against another player locally.

    • Vs. CPU – Play solo against an AI-controlled opponent.

    • Collection – The Dr. Light Database contains numerous unlockable items, including cut scenes from the story mode, character/stage information, concept artwork and character/stage audio tracks.

    Online Modes and Features

    • Ranked Match – Battle other players online to advance in the rankings.

    • Casual Match – Battle other players online without the results affecting the rankings.

    • Beginners League – A special league fought between players of Rank 14 or lower.

    • Lobby – Search for or create a lobby where up to 8 players can engage in simultaneous player-vs-player matches.

    • Rankings – View the rankings of players from all over the world.

    • Replay Settings – Configure replay settings and view replays.

All of the action in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite takes place in new but familiar settings, as famous locations from the Marvel and Capcom universes fuse together as part of Ultron Sigma’s nefarious plot. Imagined and created through a shared vision between the two companies, the game will feature free-form 2v2 team battles and the ability to harness the power of one of six game-changing Infinity Stones, further deepening the customized gameplay by allowing players to equip and unleash elemental in-game powers during battle.

I still cannot believe this prototype looking game is coming out so soon, and during the same general time frame as Destiny 2. Yikes...

tbh this seems less catered to the MCU crowd than the Avengers Assemble (and Earths Mightiest Heroes) and Guardians of the Galaxy animated tv shows. The voices and character designs seem to be taken directly from there. While the game is def rough and needs another 6 months to cook, I think it might be fun, but Im betting if I watched those animated shows (and didnt yarrr them) Id see tons of commercials for the games

Chun's face looks way better. Game really doesn't look to play that badly. Still think it looks like a better portable game than a console game in this gen. :<

Chun's face wasn't the only thing wrong with her. Her entire model and animations are terrible, along with others. This is a band-aid on a gaping wound. From what I've seen recently, it doesn't even look like its going to be "casual player" friendly in any shape or form. I'm truly at a loss for what their goals were with this game and how they ever expect it to succeed monetarily, even if it was cheap as dirt to make.

Note: Just to show how low budget this shit is, they used royalty-free music on that trailer 6souls posted lmfao.

If capcom had focused their marketing properly (Like I dunno, targeting the same demographic the gameplay is targeting?) instead of trying using it all on advertising the story, and not been in such a rush to release this game, it would have gotten a much different reaction. But after the half finished state they released SFV in, it's not surprising that people aren't willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially with the disaster that was the public demo.

E-Sports only, is my guess. They probably figure they won't waste time on their fanbase since Esports is where the money is. Willing to bet before release Morrigan's model gets a full-body jumpsuit to make her ESPN-Friendly, since all female characters they brought in are covered head to toe. But whatever, next month will be interesting for me to watch at least. Curious to see how launch plays out.

The real final nail in the coffin will be netplay. If it's bad? hoo boy...

If the game can't draw an actual audience I fail to see how going all in on E Sports is gonna work. There's only so much exploitation money to go around for fighting games as is.

If the netplay is bad + 17 or however many people qualify to Capcom Cup this through online means.....just wow lmfao. There is going to be an amazing amount of Twitter salt.

Also, maybe this is just me, but I was under the impression most people only tune into e-Sports regularly for games they have at least played at some point casually. General audience isn't tuning into eSports for this crap, much less purchasing it...
