So the numbers from Japan are in:
First week sales for MVCI: 8,273
For reference, first week sales for past Marvel games in Japan:
Hahhahahahhahahha
HAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAhHAHAHAHaaaaaaaa
D.O.A.
By the way, their goal to shareholders was 2M. LOL

SF5 post-"decline" is still higher than any other game ever, including any era of SF4. So the only game that's ever done better (in those metrics) than 2017 SF5 is 2016 SF5.
I guess this means that Marvel will not be popular in Japan this time!
I just read something, regarding how awful this game's planning went. Notice the box art:
What is missing? The most recognizable character in the entire game: Spiderman. What a group of absolute morons Capcom has become...
Now we've solved the mystery of why UMVC3 sales were so low!
NO SPIDEY ON THE COVER GUYS
Just following in the footsteps of another failed Marvel vs. Capcom game, I suppose.
...... Wow. Not even just this game sales were so low. If I was a Capcom Exec looking at these numbers, I'd be PISSED. Sales dropped off more than 50% with UMVC3 and NEVER recovered and they haven't had a single good game in this series in SIX Years. How much you want to bet pretty much all capcom series read like this?
Just did some quick math and adding all those sales numbers together after UMVC3 and assuming just all those games were $60 (yes I know being generous) is only about $3.4m. Granted these are only first week sales but sales always massively drop off after first week. No wonder they push DLC so hard. The Physical games sales has been a money black hole for them.
Can't get new customers? Then MILK THE ONES YOU HAVE
It was implied in my previous post, but this list is for Marvel sales in Japan. Japan does not care about Marvel and never has.
It's like using Japanese XB1 sales numbers to declare that console dead. The XB1 might indeed be a failure, but Japanese sales aren't the reason why.
Japan sales for Marvel are typically low, but this is EXTREME failure rates.
Week 1 sales rounded:
MVCI: 8,000
MVC2 DC: 72,000
MVC2 PS2: 49,000
MVC3 (Vanilla) PS3: 67,000
They literally lost 7/8 ~ 9/10 (depending on source) of their customers between MVC3 vanilla and MVCI vanilla, so "milking" their existing ones isn't exactly going to work either, Deejay hahahhaa. Also, it bombed majorly in the UK, but I don't have the stats handy.
This will be the largest gaming flop for a major title in 2017, in regards to sales.
the entire marvel vs capcom infinite roster on the marvel side is more accurately based on the marvel animated universe and its costumes and characters. They have the Avengers Assemble cartoon, the GotG cartoon, and the new Spiderman cartoon (replacing Ultimate SpiderMan).
Costumes are practically pulled right from that universe except Gamorra who is wearing her comic book costume (in the movies she is almost exclusively a sword character, whereas in the comics she is more of an all weapons character)
The Doctor Strange costume is def not pulled from the movies, its his occasional outfit that he wears when he shows up in the Avengers cartoon, Ultron is his cartoon variant and voice as well I believe, not the deep gravely James Spader that would be so much better. Iron Man is circle reactor which is cartoon as opposed to the not quite a square he uses in the movies (his reactor shape changes in the comics all the time). Cap is his "new" armor from the cartoon, which is supposed to appear in season 4 (and was sortof used in the comics). Captain Marvel is supposed to be added to the show as well, Black Widow is already a member of the base roster and Winter soldier is to be added as well. Ghost Rider is Ghost Rider, he appears in the cartoon occasionally. Nova is going to be part of the gotg cartoon, I would assume that Dr Strange might join the Avengers cartoon team at some point, Black Panther is supposed to be on that team too.
There are currently NO X-Men cartoons in production, nor have the X-Men appeared in any real capacity on the show, though the rumor is they will be. Fantastic 4 have been mentioned but Marvel comics has stepped away from them due to poor sales. X-Men comics are not ignored, they currently have almost as many books as the Avengers for their cast
Look familiar?
Base roster is not movie based but cartoon based, except for Falcon for some dumb reason, but Im assuming he will either be DLC or just relegated to a background character since his cartoon variant is nothing like his movie or comic book variant.
Leaving out StarLord and Drax are likely DLC grabs for a future season, since they can def attract based on their popularity. X-Men and Doom getting added in makes sense. All in all the roster is a huge disappointment but when I look at it not from a movie perspective but a "we already are making toys for THESE SPECIFIC CHARACTERS" it makes 100% perfect sense. They are catering to the kids watching the cartoon, since there arent really many marvel games outside of lego and mobile games
I bet they make a harder push for this game on sales in the next month, so kids ask for it for christmas
anyway, just wanted to chime in with my thoughts and observations. Game needs an art overhaul and the advertising and PR team for it should be fired. Do a poll like smash and watch 4chan upvote squirrel girl above wolverine
For the record, it also bombed immensely in the USA. Currently, it is just a wait and see for exact numbers. As a reference, it didn't even crack Amazon's top 100 video games sold for the week it was released (how the fuck...) and was outsold by the likes of "Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash".
I can't even believe that is real....
advertising dept at capcom is a bunch of morons, a better team on this and the people up top looking at the last gen tier graphics would have said eh we delaying this bitch, launch it when Avengers Infinity War is coming out, thats the jam right there
I won't dispute that MVCI sales are less than expected/hoped. But the absolute best case scenario was always somewhere between MVC3 and UMVC3. MVC has always been a prestige product for Capcom; when they just want money, they make another Resident Evil or Monster Hunter.
I think that in the post-SF5 era, XB1/Steam sales were hurt more by lack of crossplay than the graphics. But ultimately, just like UMVC3, MVCI's legacy will be determined by interest and longevity, not sales. If Capcom doesn't lose money on this - and based on the DLC character strategy, they won't - having another game on ESPN will more than justify the investment.

This kid is gonna be the best at this game by the time it's all said and done.
Cheeky shit. I think the meta is gonna revolve around space/soul/reality

I think people are sleeping on mind a little bit; it basically works out to about 8 extra meters (plus two level 3s if you want them). That's not insignificant.
The one gem that would shock me the most if it lasted is power. It's basically just combo extension, but I think the more practical combo limiter will be damage scaling.
Don't know if it was posted, but kotaku showed a video of a 100% infinite using Spiderman's web ball and the reality stone. Basically trap someone in web ball, shoot a reality stone and time your next web ball to hit 1 frame after reality stone hits and it traps them again, repeat until dead.
Yep, easy setups into it have been all over Twitter for a week.
Capcom said they are looking into patching that particular infinite out soon.
Speaking of infinites, this video may be insightful to some:
