i didn't really have a comfortable amount of orbs/hones until 2 orbfests after starting so i think there's something to the argument

My point is the eggs help newcomers not waste time EXPing their new characters from the event in dungeons, allowing them to spend time farming orbs.

Boo hoo. No orb rewards. There are event dungeons and dailies for that.

And I did start a new account in JP. Lack of hones sucks, but I wouldn't complain about it because all the abilities in the world won't help you beat content if your characters have an average level of 50 and you have zero soul breaks.

That couldn't be further from the truth lol. Abilities are the most important factor in this game after relics.
Once again: newcomers aren't gonna spend time farming orbs when they're starting out. This event gives you 3 major eggs for its last stage, are you still gonna argue that the rewards aren't awful?
In comparison the DoC event gives you White Cape, 3 Major eggs, Mythril, Greater Dark Orb and Greater Fire Orb x10 for clearing its last Elite stage.

I'm not sure which banners I want to pull on. I'd like FFXI so that I could get a support BSB (Lion), FFIV for Edge, FFV for Bartz/Faris, or just wait until FFT since I still lack Shout and Meliadoul seems nice.

You aren't supposed to clear Apocs at level 50 or as a noob though. What I'm saying is that EXP is plentiful and it's very easy to level up as is, orbs/relics will always be your main obstacle for clearing content. You're not gonna clear Apoc without hones and good abilities at all, Jump Starts sure but only if you have broken combination of USBs/BSBs to abuse.
Myabe the next 2 events will give different rewards, who knows? I honestly doubt it.
