Can someone shill me on this game? I'm very tempted to buy it but also pretty hesitant that I may be overwhelmed and never touch it. Why should I, or should I not get it. I've already watched a bunch of reviews and am still on the fence :-/

If you liked Xenoblade 1 or X, you'll like this. If you haven't played either of those.....not really sure, would depend on how you feel about really long JRPGs I guess lol. It isn't a perfect game, but it is a very satisfying JRPG that looks great, has some good music, plays well, and has a pretty good story with interesting characters. If you're a completionist though, this game may end up taking like 200-300 hours. I think just beating the game is maybe like 50-70 hours?

That's the thing, on ps4 I tend to be a trophy whore and rarely finish jRPGs anymore because "omg so many trophies" and I burn out. One of the reasons I got a switch was to get myself out of this mindset and actually play games for the sake of enjoyment again. Generally with jRPGs story is my defining factor, and some sources say the story blows and others are saying it's great =\

For me trying to cap out doesn’t feel like a grind in this game

I wouldn't say the story blows. I wouldn't say it'a amazing. It's a good enough story that it's worth playing. For me, having played the other games in the series intensified that feeling. I absolutely loved the tie-ins with the other games. There are direct calls and references from the first game, as well as some clarifications for things we never knew of prior to this game. I really suggest playing the first game if you can. It'll give you a feel for what you're getting into, as well as help you understand some of those tie-ins. It isn't necessary, but it makes it better.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend the game is the blade summoning system is entirely RNG, but it doesn't take too much effort to get all the blades from it. It's shitty, but it's acceptably so. Most of my prior gripes are being patched out with every update, so..there's that.

XC2 is my first xenoblade-game and I am really enjoying it. I'd definitely recommend it.

I never finished X but finished 2 and never played 1, putting in over 125 hours. I loved the game and definitely recommend it. My friend finished it in about 70 hours and skipped a lot of side stuff so it’s definitely completable around 60-70 if you just want to do the story

Thanks for the shills. I caved and got it. Only like two hours in but so far I like the combat systems and such.

Is there a way to see how close until the next town level up? I got the first place from 0 -> 1 star but I don't know how really or how close I am to the next one.

There's not, but I wouldn't stress about that.

When you get to Chapter 4's town, you can buy Golden Cylinders to salvage with, and get each town to 5* super quick.

Oh perfect. Does turning in the sets in towns give experience to the town or something?

Leveling each town seems to be based on a certain amount of money spent/earned from selling stuff or from turning in salvaged items at the trading guild, or whatever it was called, for money (this is more money than just selling the salvaged items).

edit: They also level from talking to people with stars and doing sidequests too, but money seems to level them much faster.

Yep, each town's rating is increased by questing, buying, and selling there. Turning in salvaged item sets is the most lucrative thing in the game, so it also levels towns up very quickly. There's three easy methods, depending on if you want to profit or not:

    (1) Buy Golden Cylinders. Salvage in the area whose development level you want to raise. Trade in results to the area's trader. Net result: millions in profit, but slower.

    (2) Buy maximum Golden Cylinders in 5* area. Sell them in area you want to raise dev level in. Net result: no change in gold, takes a few dozen trips back/forth.

    (3) Buy maximum Golden Cylinders in area you want to raise. Sell. Net result: loss of gold, extremely fast development gain.

Gotta start with method #1 to build your fortune first, regardless. Golden Cylinders will also only be available in Chapter 4's town for awhile. Can't remember when they appear in others.

Outside of trying to get specific quest items, it doesn't seem to matter which salvaging spots you choose in an area, by the way. Each spot has its own button combination for salvaging, so go to whichever is easiest to you or closest to the trader.
