Therion is another good choice as so many skipped purple chest

Purple chests are the sole reason why I'm keeping him in my party. That and at high levels he's pretty insane.

I've heard his damage functions based on speed. It seems obviously true for his divine skill because it states it, but does anyone know if that is true otherwise, like regular attacks and such?

Out side of purple chests I don't care for him too much outside of stealing from NPCs. I have no reason to ever use his transfer SP move as he has stolen sooooooo many restorative items that work better that it makes the transfer ability a moot point.

I think i've overleveled Therion and Cyrus (30 and 28) getting everyone to ~20 for Ch2. Whoops.

There are a few set-ups that seem automatic based on roles.

    Ophelia/Apothecary
    Cyrus/Merchant
    Tressa/Apothecary or Scholar
    Primrose/Thief
    Alfyn/Cleric

But I am having the hardest damned time deciding on Therion (main), H'aanit, and Olberic roles. I understand H'aanit and Olberic function great with eachothers class as their sub, but Therion can WAIL with /Warrior or be an ultimate buff/debuff unit with /Dancer - which kind of seems like a lost 2nd class selection because Primrose does /Thief so much better.

I think it's only for his Divine. However high speed still is great for giving him the initiative every fight.

Purple chests can be hit or miss but I got some good stuff out of them. During Prim's final dungeon I got a sword that gave some pretty nice damage and speed or evasion on it.

And yeah share SP loses its use early on. It was helpful when I first started since Cyrus can burn through his SP real fast however once I got SP Regen/Cut I only really used it for my melee characters

For Therion, Dancer for more speed/evasion and darkness. Hunter for a smaller speed boost but more variety in weapons and also some physical attack.

I think I may swap Therion to dancer if I keep using him. He's currently on merchant but merchant kinda sucks, and since hired help doesn't scale it seems like it will just keep getting worse. It did let me buy a 300 dmg sword from some second chapter town though so that was cool....

Been going with Therion/Hunter for the most part. Being able to open with initiative and arrow barrage all enemies at once is always nice for large packs, more so when they have a weakness. Cyrus with cleric or merchant for everything up until I unlocked archmage. Archmage is such a game changer and cyrus abuses it well. I've left Ophillia with sch about 90% of the game since I've unlocked. Having two elemental casters eats most things up and more so if you pick up patience from the hunter skill set.

    Currently I'm rolling

    Alfyn/Dancer
    Therion/Merchant
    H'aanit/Warrior
    Ophelia/Scholar.

Doubling up with Therion/Hunter seems like a good choice since I love the arrow rain ability. I'll probably make the swap after I have purchased everything I would want to.

What level were you when you tried to go after the trial jobs? I tried Archmage and got beat pretty bad. Rune Knight when the runes combined and got obliterated with what I'm thinking was an 6-fold attack on everyone.

I did them right around 50.

Archmage, I don't remember it being to difficult. Haanit helps quite a bit here with boosted pets. I would recommend picking up a few of double blessed spear frogs outside of duskwood when taking on any of these. With the enemy broken and Fully boosted they should do about 6-7K x2(THF Armor corrosive may have been on as well). You're trying to work down approximately 184K HP or so. Additionally(and with all others):

-Leg trap from hunter helps a ton in controlling the fights(Pushes the enemy attacks to last strike of the rounds).
-Hunter's 'Patience' trait is a must have for any of these fights(and really any fight) as the additional attacks can be a life saver.
-Second strike isn't a must have but it's nice when it procs to help push breaks quicker.
-The use of the BP fruit items(name escapes me) should be used to prep for a burst round. I tended to use my cleric or THF to do it.
-Elemental stone items should be used to help break and get some extra damage. Large stones do about 5.4K and 2.7K unbroken static. If there is any time to use them it's in these fights.

Starseer was moderately difficult but easy once you get into a healing groove. A second healer helps a bit on this. THF/WHM can for the most part cover the healing with a couple inter spaced rounds of double healing.

Warmaster was probably the most difficult one so far, primarily because the last 30K HP is a burn or die phase and using melee weapons is mostly out of the question.(Instakill counter ability; will cast it, it's not a passive) Archmage helps a ton on this fight primarily for breaking. I wasn't able to land a blind with weapons so I don't know if she's immune or I'm unlucky. THF's shackle foe will greatly reduce the damage to reasonable levels.

I haven't done Runeblade yet, primarily cause I didn't look up any guides so didn't have a location.

Could you use Alfyn to do an AoE BP regen item? I think that's possible right?

Got this and wow loving the battle system. There's no way to auto battle though right? Seems like a lot of random encounters so far...

Still have Alfyn and Tressa at lv 9 so not terribly familiar with the chemist or merchant ability sets.

I got this the day it came out and I've decided to take my sweet time with the stories. I just now finished all of the Chapter 2 paths and I'm now looking for a place to grind up EXP and JP.

I started with Olberic and he's already Lv. 42 with all the others in the low-mid 30s and Alfyn at 29. I've been using x4 Bewildering Grace to help boost my EXP and JP gains but I'm finding it slower than just spam killing groups of mobs, but one-shotting lower level ones isn't giving enough EXP to justify it. I need something a bit higher level. Recommendations?

Do the battles, trust me. The EXP and JP will add up.

The Scholar job's first passive is a 50% encounter rate reduction, which makes it so you can go entire screens without encounters. So, either get Cyrus, or find the shrine in his region (the 20+ area) to unlock the Scholar subjob.

The main perks of Merchant imo are Donate BP (for a character who might not be super active on every turn, or is otherwise a weaker link) and Rest (for self-sufficient management of HP/SP). Cyrus/Merchant is like the most convenient thing for most battles, or you could have someone like Ophilia take /Merchant and have Tressa in, and both Donate BP someone to have a 3x boost on turn 1.

Worth noting because it's slightly ambiguous but Donate BP doesn't cost the user's BP (unboosted, anyways); if you use unboosted Donate BP to pass otherwise idle turns it's quite effective BP economy:
0 Boost: ally gets +1, user still regens +1 next turn
1 Boost: ally gets +2, user does not regen next turn
    2-3 Boost: ally gets +3/4, ^

Thief's SP donate thing on the other hand does actually take from your SP, which made me kind of sad.

    So far I'm using
    Tressa/Scholar
    Cyrus/Merchant
    Ophilia/Warrior
    H'aanit/Cleric
    Therion/Hunter
    Alfyn/Thief

(yeah I got /Warrior before getting Olberic. I'm weird)
