Tim Faust is back on Chapo this week. He's their health expert guest and he makes understanding healthcare very easy. Tho his previous appearances obviously won't be as topical (first one was during AHCA, second was after House passed AHCA) they are also worth checking out. Anyway this one was just recorded yesterday and came out tonight. https://soundcloud.com/chapo-trap-ho...im-faust-73017

I kinda agree with no litmus test. It will be almost impossible to remove democrats from always being pro-choice in the eyes of voters though.

That sound you heard was me, emitting the world's largest sigh imaginable.

Like, why aren't democrats more pissed off about litmus tests from the center.

    Because they are the center.

Or actually the center is to the left of the Democratic Party.

Personally I would be fine with having no litmus tests at all. You're elected if the people resonate with your platform (well, you're supposed to) and isn't that what the primaries are for anyway?

If you wanna run as a Democrat on a pro-life platform and your base laughs you out of the primary that's your pill to swallow.

I struggle to put this into words as well as I want to but I think a lot of partisan stuff right now has to do with that kind of thing. I would love to know how many people on both sides are actually voting for, say, Abortion, due to their personal beliefs rather than it just being a partisan point of contention. It's a lot easier to campaign against somebody because you disagree with them on the 4 things every American knows is a major issue than, god forbid, actually talking about more intricate stuff like infrastructure funding.

i agree entirely with the notion of allowing regional voters to decide through, you know, voting, on what policies their representatives should have and not forcing national purity tests on every member of a given party. indeed i think the rise of the hyperpartisanship of the modern era to be directly linked to how thoroughly the zealots of both parties have exorcised moderate Blue Dog Democrats + Rockefeller Republicans from their ranks.

and of course the thing with pro-life Democrats is that they are running in places where their base is pro-life. the DCCC chairman is not going to fund some pro-lifer in California, but for a Joe Manchin in West Virginia, a pro-lifer that nonetheless defends federal Planned Parenthood funding? i understand liberals do not agree with him on many issues but the alternative in West fucking Virginia is the reddest of Republicans.

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...house-proposal

Article about the bi-partisan House bill getting put together that I'm sure Paul Ryan will never let see the floor.

Basically does what we were talking about earlier - scraps medical device tax, eliminates employer mandate for companies <500 employees (currently <50), funds cost-sharing reduction payments, adds funding for state-based reinsurance programs (fuck you Marco Rubio).

    You know...compromise.

The Democrats path to the House runs through the abortion clinic shooters of America.

Gonna be some real tough choices come November 2018. Will people vote for the interventionist, big business, anti-abortion, market based healthcare candidate or the interventionist, big business, anti-abortion, market based healthcare candidate?

right except Joe Manchin's vote just prevented Obamacare repeal and a Republican-senator-from-West-Virginia's uh probably wouldn't have.

Murkowski and Collins also stopped it. So maybe the answer is to just elect more "moderate" republicans.

Or just do what the DCCC is doing, same thing.
