What do they hope to gain from this repeal? Is it something in the vacancies clause?

It provides for popular election of senators. With it gone the state legislature would do that. With control of as many as R's have, they could make a filibuster proof majority in the senate and ram through w/e they want.

at the risk of going against Zealot's twitter sources that is never ever ever going to happen. can you even begin to imagine the public backlash that would accompany such a brazenly undemocratic regression that would strip away so much sovereignty from the people

    1) I didn't say it would happen, I said it is clearly the emerging talking point for the far-right mouthpieces like Huckabee and Palin. They have limited exposure currently in the mainstream but still enjoy regular attention from a niche audience that serves as a testing ground for ALEC. If they can get that demographic to respond positively, they start testing the idea on a larger scale.
    2) I have seen little to no evidence that Americans would either a) not defend a point actively against their interest so long as some perceived "other side" didn't want it and b) be able to form a cogent argument against a despicable idea that wouldn't be ignored by one side and attacked for some reason by the other. Don't want appointment of Senators? Why? Because you don't want states with black legislators sending more people of color to Congress you racist?

I'd vote just based on name recognition. She's doing an AMA right now on Reddit.

The "last remaining" health care plan being kicked around, Cassidy-Graham, is monumentally stupid.

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...amacare-repeal

It basically block-grants all current medicaid expansion/ACA subsidy money, but at a lower level than is currently spent, keeps the pre-existing condition ban but removes all mandates, really really dumb bad policy.

Just a transparent 2020 prelude. Marijuana legalization would probably be a decent issue for a democratic nominee to take up -- Sessions' unpopular criminalization stance would be easy to hammer.

Just like the outcry when the GOP brazenly defied the established process for selection of SCOTUS Justices.

I could ask my conservative idiot red shandy about the 17th amendment and he'd say we should repeal it.

I bet you repealing the 17th amendment is more popular with republicans than trump.

uh did you just compare dispensing with the filibuster (which is a Senate procedural rule never provided for in the Constitution) for SCOTUS nominations (as the Democrats did for other federal appointments in 2013) to literally amending the Constitution so party elites can strip away the citizenry's right to vote for one of the branches of the federal government

look bud i know you took Hilldog's defeat hard and had to go away to that spa for a while but you can do better than this
