I also tend to use a hitch to transport my bicycles to neighboring cities to ride.

As I've said before, I think the solution of first having all interstates be autodrive and then have varying levels of automation down to a local level. Integrate the technology into the cars over time and eventually you get to full automation.

I do wonder what will happen regarding rec vehicles though (far far down the road that is). Motorhomes are expensive to rent, and it's nice to own your own.

This plan will take forever to happen, and it's not gonna fly well outside of heavy urban areas and surrounding near suburbs. There's no way Joe Redneck will call for a self driving pickup to take him 25 miles back and forth through the countryside to the worksite with his tools. Maybe a hundred years from now when we all live in Megacity One everyone will live with self driving, on demand transportation but not any time soon.

There will be a transition phase at the very least. Automated and manual, with automated handling the dull interstate stuff that is most hazardous for truckers and the truckers handling the skillful fine maneuvering.

Probably actually see an increase in productivity and wages earned because now they can be off the logbook while moving.

Long term, maybe, but itll be a gradual process and there will always be some niche.

You realize that once they are automated you can jack up the speed restrictions because no humans are involved right? I wouldn't be surprised to see cruising at 80+ easily done. Paves the way for 100mph+ eventually.

Driving Uber for the last 11 months, as well as using it on Vacations, I've come to the conclusion that less than 5% of the nation's population should have a drivers license. I especially hate the people who feel stop signs/yields don't apply to them and then get mad when you honk at them.
