    yeah thats pretty good line.

fiye and ksandra are both right. the advancements this time ARE different; AI will eventually replace most workers, and the power of labor will shift to those with capital, instead of the en-masse power of the many. but we're nowhere near there yet. there'll be a transition period (likely on the scale of a generation or two) during which people will re-adjust, and society will change. when labor and capital become the same thing, who then will those in power SELL their goods to? the entire concept of an exchange of goods and services only works if the majority of people have something worth exchanging; when human labor becomes less valuable than machine labor, the entire process stops functioning. it could lead to exploitation along the lines of company towns, but to what end? build more robots. capitalism as a system will kill itself.

but maybe im not explaining that well.

We've arguably been walking down this path for about 40 years ever since Reagan opened the necromonicon and summoned trickle down.

capitalism as a system will kill itself.
The thing is that capitalism assumes that everyone working for their own profit creates an optimal outcome. But this logic has always broken down at some point because actors in the economy and not equivalent with people. A CEO can profit from his company's loss (see K-Mart selling off its real estate to the CEO's property company which then gets to charge K-Mart rent, and then eventually more rent when K-Mart dies and those properties go to profitable stores).

In the same way, the beneficiaries of capitalism don't need to consider the end result for the world. If something doesn't help them in the short term, they don't care about the long term benefits (see environmental regulations).

Businesses aren't forward enough thinking to account for this. It has to be someone who isn't focused on their own profit, i.e. government.

You are correct. Capitalism isn't sustainable with the ongoing advances with technology, and has helped to reduce the work force faster than normal because fuck people if shit sells without them.

Even with the idea of "well you'll make the robots," one person is going to be essentially making a robot that does the job of multiple people.

If people were smart about looking towards the far future and how to handle it, they would be backing the concept of a universal basic income. It will be almost a necessity maybe a century or two from now as less and less jobs are needed.

But in the meantime there are still plenty of jobs out there. Currently, every person in America could be working doing something. The problem of unemployment right now is not that there are not enough jobs. It's that the jobs are either: a. unappealing to Americans (aka field worker, Walmart, etc.) or b. something enough people haven't thought (or can't afford) to train in (aka engineering/doctors/etc.). So there is definitely a lot more that can be done to help people.

eh. I wouldn't be surprised if it came earlier, but politics makes me think it's going to be a big mess for quite awhile before we really see a huge economic crash over it. Lots of hemorrhaging and band-aid fixes for quite a few decades before they no longer work.

    I could be wrong.

I'd throw in a C that includes pay involved. A good deal of the unappealing jobs could at least be tolerated if you didn't need to work 2 or more of them just to skate by. At which point, solid pay could at least help remedy B should the person identify a field that does interest them. Nonetheless, we've still gotta train people to stop believing things like flipping burgers are just stepping stones to better things when said things are already taken, rarely open, or are disappearing. :/

I put pay under A. That's why I listed Walmart as an example. If the pay isn't good, it's not going to be appealing.

With that said, yes, we need a major shift in how we look at retail/service workers as those jobs are increasing.

    So this happened.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.3488752

The Republican lawmaker from Texas was among more than 400 accounts that liked a two-minute-long porno from @SexuallPosts on the social media site.

Lewd footage of the actors — two women and a man — briefly appeared on Cruz’s feed of liked tweets for no particular reason early Tuesday.
