CBO is out. Lots of interesting reading. Deficit friendly (337 billion by 2026) but 52 million uninsured by 2026 (28m under Ocare). Premiums expected to be 10% lower by then despite rising every year until 2020.

should note that many of the 14 million newly uninsured for 2018 will be those that had only purchased insurance to avoid the penalty. Unfortunately they gonna remain uninsured when they get sick but don't want to get hit with that 30% premium increase LOL

Of course, this isn't apples-to-apples, given that a part of the decrease is because of

the elimination of the requirement for insurers to offer plans
covering certain percentages of the cost of covered benefits

Basically right now the lowest plans have to cover an estimated 60% of group health costs (Bronze plans). With that going away, there will be plans offered that cover maybe 30 or 40% at the low end (that healthy people will buy) driving down the average premium but not providing nearly the same amount of insurance.

And, of course, with the premium changes hurting older people and helping younger people, kicking expensive older people out of the market because it's unaffordable is going to both help the risk pool and push high-premium-paying people out while keeping low-premium-paying people in, skewing the overall premium.

I'm convinced that Republicans in Congress and Trump are so hellbent on giving money to the rich that they'll ram this through, no matter how badly it could screw them politically, although maybe the Senate would be a tougher sell if even Tom Fucking Cotton is sounding the alarm against this.

Also, that CBO score is hilarious -- yes, premiums will go down for healthy younger people, but the elderly are going to get massively fucked when the individual mandate doesn't hold down their rates. If this passed, it would either be apocalyptic for the GOP or we'd see just how bad the cognitive dissonance is with Trump voters.

CBO also didn't release the "dynamic" numbers with this yet. They only did the static. The dynamic numbers would actually show how much it would cost the nation overall after having to cover uninsured cost of sickness etc.

The thing is, if they wanted to replace the individual mandate with a 30% surcharge for lacking continuous coverage (for FREEDOM!) they could.

If they wanted to change from income/cost based subsidies to age-based (to eliminate onerous WORK DISCINCENTIVES) they could.

But what they care about is slashing taxes, and they can't do that without offsets, so they have to destroy medicaid.

A group of House Democrats is turning to legislation to call out President Trump and his White House for their history of false statements and disregarding the truth.

Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) introduced a resolution that calls for “opposing fake news and alternative facts.” Democratic Reps. Ted Lieu (Calif.) and John Lewis (Ga.) signed on as co-sponsors.

If adopted, the resolution would put the House on record as stating, “the United States should continue being a democracy, not an autocracy.”
