Congress just passed a measure that lifts restrictions on predator control in Alaska. Things that are back on the table are "hunting" bears with aircraft, gassing bears caves / wolf dens, and culling bear cubs / wolf pups.

Nice, now we can go to Alaska and hunt hibernating bears!

Maybe I'll be able to find a den with a mother and two cubs so I can pose an awesome action scene.

So in this instance what would (could) Trump do? Ryan is currently at the White House trying to tie down Trump to the sinking ship as we speak.

Personally, I don't think Trump cares at all and will place all blame on Ryan. Interested in seeing what else may happen from Trump.

    From CNN's Phil Mattingly
Ryan’s visit to the White House is not to deliver good news, according to a GOP source.
The efforts on Capitol Hill to sway members are ongoing, but things aren’t heading in the right direction.
“Not good. Not good at all,” source said.
They’ve had few firm commitments from conservatives and have seen a continued exodus of moderates. This was exactly what House leadership was worried would happen when they changed the bill, the source notes.
Source would not speculate what happens next, but this is “obviously a crucial meeting”

looking for another tweet, can't find it. basically says trump administration has been preparing to put all of the blame on paul ryan.

If the bill is not going to pass (which I'm not going to take for granted), Ryan will probably want to pull it so that he doesn't put his more vulnerable House members in the position of having to vote on something that's doomed to begin with. Trump, meanwhile, wants that vote so he can take note of every House Republican who defies him.

I don't know what the resolution is but Trump's not going to be happy if he doesn't get a vote on this. I can't see Trump turning on Ryan publicly this early, because it would mess up the rest of his agenda, but I don't think this bodes well for their future relationship when they try to get tax reform and the budget done.

Trump already tied himself to the ship when he continued talking up the bill and demanded that a vote on it happens today.

I don't understand why he gave an ultimatum. I don't understand why Congress would even acknowledge it. They are their own branch of the Government. The President does not dictate what they legislate or when they legislate it. They could continue working on it for months and then put it on his desk and he can either sign or or veto it. Especially since Congress and especially the Speaker of the House should not want to appear subservient to the President.

Trump will turn on anyone and everyone. He may be told he has to walk it back after the fact, but he won't be able to resist angry tweets if he doesn't get what he wants.

Same reason they backed him during the campaign. The base loves him.

I think too many Republican members still fear what could happen if Trump turns his base against them in a fit of vindictive rage, and the calculus has always been to put up with his nonsense until they can get the things they want (primarily tax reform / tax cuts).

God you guys are right, its hilarious how trying to think reasonably about this serves no purpose. He raised 31 million for the NRCC on Tuesday. They could use that 31 million to buy every air wave in the nation and say that they passed a health care replacement that the president vetoed and it wouldn't remotely shake his base.

Its fucking dope that the President can hold the majority in Congress hostage. This is the most lit timeline.

i assume that none of you have hunted a day in your lives but population control measures are not about being sporting to the animals, they are utilized to keep both predator and prey populations at sustainable levels and smooth out naturally occurring population explosions and crashes. with the Holocene extinction wiping out so many natural checks on population growth human conservation (which is not only supported by the population controls hunters affect but is largely funded through the fees hunters pay) is now more or less the only means of maintaining sustainable population levels.

moreover most of the federally prohibited practices overlap with state prohibitions. aerial hunting, gassing, footsnares, for the average hunter these practices are all already outlawed by the state except when a culling is deemed exigent for population control.

there is a legitimate argument to be made the Alaskan government has favored prey populations over predator populations as ungulates make up many an Alaskans' sustenance, but so long as none of these populations are in danger of extinction (none are) that is a conversation best had at the state level nay. it is a questionable outlook that determines the Cory Bookers and Nancy Pelosis of the world have a better view of ideal predator-prey ratios in the Alaskan wilderness than regional fish and wildlife organizations.

Must have vote so Trump knows who to complain about. "It was a great plan, we were going to make American health care great! Had everything I promised! SAD" plus tweets about who made it all fail.

The best is Richie Neal after every republican speaks announcing how many in their district will lose health insurance if the vote passes
