you guys might be overthinking it a little. the bill had nowhere near the votes (WaPo had the final tally at 36 confirmed nos with 15 more probable nos, could only afford <=22) and only a party of unrelenting stupidity would have a floor vote on a bill that has no chance of passing. Trump, Ryan, whomever, I can't imagine anyone with even the smallest modicum of political sense not seeing that pulling the bill was the right measure when it was between 15-30 votes short of passing.

the really terrific thing being lost in the politics is the Obamacare death spiral is real for many of the exchanges and while this health plan was not the solution a solution is clearly needed as healthcare costs continue to rise and cannibalize an ever larger share of a federal budget that is going to be decimated by demographic shifts unless something is done. maybe in 2021 eh.
