the really terrific thing being lost in the politics is the Obamacare death spiral is real for many of the exchanges and while this health plan was not the solution a solution is clearly needed as healthcare costs continue to rise and cannibalize an ever larger share of a federal budget that is going to be decimated by demographic shifts unless something is done. maybe in 2021 eh.

Yeah, I'm wondering how the premiums and such will look next year. I doubt this Congress will be able to push anything through in a year even if premiums skyrocket again. It'll be interesting to see if more insurers pull out for 2018 or how premium changes go. Many were saying the big hikes in 2017 were a one-time adjustment as the government risk compensation programs ended and insurers needed to make sure they weren't losing money (as a number of them were). Whether the risk pools get worse is an open question, as well as whether any counties will be without any insurers if a major leaves (although there's substantial benefit to having at least a single insurer in every market given the number of heavily subsidized customers available everywhere).

And of course, insurance aside, your underlying point stands - health care costs continue to rise ever upward and nary a solution is in sight.

On the other hand, Kansas is finally looking to go through with the medicaid expansion. The two biggest things that need fixing are making sure the individual market in rural areas stays viable (and making sure insurance companies can't fuck around and play games like Humana did), and figuring out if there's a way to increase the effectiveness/participation of the individual mandate over time.

I suspect Trump will just continue to work to sabotage Obamacare (like pulling advertising/awareness for sign-ups) and then blame it on Democrats if he creates any instability.
