Indeed. While it's true that Democrats generally benefit from increased turnout, the element of surprise is a real thing -- and an advantage that Ossoff had in the runoff but is deprived of here.
The national, celebrity attention this election has received alerted Republicans every bit as much as Democrats, and in a deeply Republican district, that is probably not a good thing. Spending without the spectacle would probably be a better strategy for Democrats against more comfortable R seats, as we're seeing with SC-5, which got practically no attention or funding. I can't help but wonder how different its margin could be if Democrats had funded it more.
