I think I'll call Rand Paul's office. We both seem to be no's, but for different reasons. So don't know what to say. I'm a registered Republican (true) that has spent years working in health care (also true). Should I say I own a small durable medical equipment company that will be decimated if the Medicaid expansion is cut?

I wish he would care but you lived through Kentucky's successful ACA launch and subsequent destruction. I'd be hard pressed to think of a state whose legislator's care less about their constituents.

This plan is going to death spiral markets so fast if it passes. The subsidies are so much weaker that premiums are going to jump a TON right off the bat, and unless you are currently sick tons of healthy people are going to drop out right away.

Even the current individual mandate fine would be even more insufficient than it currently is - but there is no fine at all.

This is how I read the situation as soon as I heard who the dissenters were. The GOP opposition to this bill will conveniently vanish just in time for a vote after the "moderates" are given a fig leaf to hide behind with their constituents.

This is how you know true his opposition to the Senate plan might be. This kinda group won't run attack ads for people like Lee, Paul, Cruz who are in opposition because it doesn't cut enough, or people like Murkowski, Portman, and Collins who are in opposition until they get a few nothing burger amendments in to say they "attempted" to make it more palatable before voting yes.

Heller is the most obvious person to be allowed to vote no on this. If Rand Paul is Rand Pauling it, then they need 100% compliance from the rest. They'll probably have to carve out an Alaska bailout for Murkowski and drop PP defunding for Collins. Everyone else will toe the line.
