Do people really care about CBO scores.

It's supposed to be a non partisan group that reviews it, and obviously republicans are concerned enough about it that they are willing to skip over it.

"Supposed to be" is a funny phrase. These guys already have the entire thing rigged in their favor and it's still working against them. Which means it's probably a way worse plan than anybody realizes.

I think the effects of CBO scores on the general voting populous are overrated. I think, maybe, republicans have used it as a cudgel against democrats to whip up votes at most. Most people simply don't give a shit.

Nothing stops them. It was unprecedented in modern times to pass legislation without their report, but the CBO releases the score anyway (as they did for the House bill).

I mean, the CBO score got the first house bill pulled and it was the reason the house rushed the 2nd bill through. Typically, when creating large peices of legislation, you want to know how much it costs. In almost all instances, it's a non-partisan congressional tool for knowing the cost of a bill, and in a few select circumstances....like health care....the public is engaged enough that it cares about the scoring.

Apparently the cheap plans that insurers could offer due to the Cruz amendment that don't cover anything also don't count for the "continuous coverage" part of the bill. What this means is if you buy a cheap plan, get sick, and find out you aren't covered for the treatment you need, you would be barred from getting coverage for six months because of your pre-existing condition.

If there was any doubt, they're rescinding support because it's not a complete repeal, and thus "it is more likely our health care system will devolve into single payer." lol

Jerry Moran? Man he really came out of nowhere.

Weird that the move to reinstate taxes on investment income backfired on McConnell - you'd think he wouldn't do that unless he knew it would be politically safe.

Although who knows whether that's actually what Lee and Moran cared about - the links between actual bill features and Republican objections about the bill have often been tenuous at best.
