The main benefit of the DLC is the classes it brings which kind of fill a gap that existed in the base game for most mages. It's not like hugely important though just opens up some options for certain characters to use more of their strengths. The extra mode it gives is a good challenge, and the characters are solid, but I don't think you can purchase the last DLC separately.

What do you wish you knew when you started? I'm still on ch 1

When you instruct students, the amount of times you can do it is directly based on how much enthusiasm they have, so make sure you always have enough students maxed on that. Also, go through each character now and see what master class you want to make them, and make sure their learning goals are orientated towards that at some point early on. Two of my students are behind cause they need to go down a class that requires a weapon they have no skill in, and if I had started earlier I'd be much further ahead right now.

You also unlock merchants and blacksmithing from quests, so just keep an eye on those to get more unlocks in your area early on. Also, gardening and fishing are easy ways to stock up on supplies, so always do those anytime you're exploring. They don't require energy, so have at it.

Make sure you get a battalion on every character asap, and set your adjuncts from the menu when you unlock that in a few hours. They just mention adjuncts in a screen after a fight, but you gotta set them from the menu like an equip.

Huh don't think I knew that.

Anyway, I can't speak for the DLC but just a heads up the first half of the game can get pretty damn boring during the free day crap. Thankfully the pace gets a lost better in the 2nd half.

Edited your post for the spoiler.

Yeah, the game's over a year old, but since the thread got bumped by people who just got it, figure it'd be safer.

Was that really not common knowledge at this point?

Ditto. I just wish the motions were better since during the bonding events/cutscenes some of them looked really awkward. Like elementary school level acting with how the motions looked. That or some cheesy drama play.

I think I'm gonna do the DLC side story now that I'm in ch6. I heard it takes place between ch 4 and 5 and it'll let me get more characters.

Thought it was weird that I can pick between male and female byleth again. Any reason not to swap genders from my main game just to see how things are different?

I think its that way in case you like to play it as a stand alone story. iirc the characters just sorta unlock for your main game when you beat the side game.

Is the DLC pass for this ever on sale? I'm assuming no because Nintendo but figure I'd check just in case. I finished a first playthrough around a week ago and I'll probably get the DLC before I begin going through the other routes but even if it's something that's like twice a year, I can wait. Games this big I don't tend to jump back into without taking a good amount of time away from it.

My first playthrough, picked the eagle house? I can't recall the name without the game infront of me lol. I picked the red squad/Edelgard house to start. Just got part 2 last night, I'm fucking pissed...

Except Dimitri path is the best path. Pity that I picked him first so it's all downhill from my first playthrough. I'm not looking forward to Claude's so much overall, but I'm greatly looking forward to seeing the handsome and talented Lorenz Hellman Gloucester in his natural habitat.

I'm on Edelgard's now, just before the Ch 13 mission...
    Spoiler: show
I expected the Tomb scene to be utter nonsense, but that and the aftermath was funnier than I could have even imagined. Rhea cursing me out had me howling, and then the reactions from the students. "Edelgard is a monster! She has to be stopped! Oh, our teacher surprised her by taking her side. Edelgard is great again!"

Her path also splits into two parts as well depending on what choices you pick.

Aw shit so I guess I'm passed that huh. I would have joined her but I guess I picked the wrong options. How many hours into the game is this normally? I feel like I'm taking forever...

I think you needed to have a certain affection with her so she invites you to the capital (and then go with her) to get that choice.
