I’ll say my first time playing for Edelgard’s house and choosing to support her wildly colored my future playthroughs for the other houses since I knew certain things I wasn’t supposed to. Such as

doing that kinda made me not to want to do other storylines, it seemed to be the true route imo.

Different alternate universes.

I'd rank the storylines Edelgard's > Claude's > Dimitri's > Rhea's, but I also played Edelgard's first and that really influenced my impressions of the others.

If I remember correctly, the first choice is to visit the capital with Edelgard which then gives you the option to side with her or Rhea which splits that storyline.

For the most part, the first half of the game is the same just some different perspectives. The second half pretty much always makes it so your "side" isn't as well off, thus requiring Byleth to influence who gets to 'win' in the second half. I actually still haven't finished the Edelgard story, which I think is a bit different from the others since every other line kinda converges at the same place but Edel's doesn't afaik. The most similar routes are Claude's and the Church route, which are functionally the same thing just with slightly different battles and some different dialogues.

Wasn't Claude's route the only one where you actually fought the "true evil faction" in the end?

I played Dimitri's first; before I put it down, I was working on Claude's. Was gonna save Edel's for last.

The choice was hard originally because I wanted the option of "can I just join none of you all and do my own thing".

I was hoping for a route like this or one where you unite everyone and then uncover the "true" path, but sadly theres nothing like that.

Nah there is a point in playing if you want to see all the different endings, they are not all the same. For me its like "hey I learned about this in X route but Y route expanded on it". I only completed 2.5 routes so far myself, I played right after the other and kinda burnt myself out. I spent WAY too much time focusing on and learning skills for my main teams.
