You've got imbalanced units like that here and there. Like, Hector is guaranteed to kill any ranged unit I have, while my young Tiki is the only thing I have that can take him at the expense of 1/3rd her HP or so.

Obviously not everyone has her, but Lucina murders Hector. Lyn probably does too so long as she's below half HP when she attacks, but I just throw Lucina at every Hector I see. Cain probably fucks him up too (Brave Sword) but I don't have him.
Edit: Since this game has piqued my interest in gacha style games, are any of the FF ones (Brave Exvius, Record Keeper and Mobius are the ones I know of) or Granblue Fantasy worth starting up? How F2P-friendly are they?
I quit RK awhile back because it felt too limited having 2 spells or abilities per character. Mobius got old quickly with card mechanics in something that felt like it'd have been better served with some other system. That, and last I read, they went full P2P with main FF unit jobs being $70-$100 with no way to get them in game. That may have changed though. BE is pretty solid IMO. More of a classic party JRPG with each character having dozens of spells or abilities, though typically only a handful are worth using. I think it's pretty F2P or at the very least cheap2P if you wait for deal bundles. You can make a serviceable team out of easily gotten characters without absolutely needing 5* pulls.
Granblue is the game for you if you miss grinding. It can be played completely f2p because while characters are important, real strength and versatility comes from stuff you can farm. You have a lot more control over your progress without using your wallet than any other gacha game I've ever played.
Plus, FFT style art and music with added booty.
We have a big BG crew and channel in the BG discord channel if you want to check it out. Also unlike a lot of gacha games it is very team and group oriented. The vast majority of content is raid style, and at higher level where # of players are limited you can choose to take on tank / healer / debuff / etc roles for raids with your main character.
It'll suck your life though, fair warning.
Edit: I should add in that even if you go full whale and get the best of the best characters, it still wont progress your weapon grid. There is some semblance of a great equalizer in early to midgame at least. A second warning, it'll take you 4-6 months to master one element team, roughly.
Edit 2: Serra wrote up a very detailed blog post about it here on BG. Check it out.
Sample of some of the "plot" of GBF
Spoiler: show
Granblue couldn't snag my interest, personally. It just felt... slow compared to newer titles, largely due to its UI. Fights didn't feel all that engaging, either, but that may be more of a lowbie issue.
Mobius is kind of a turn-your-brain-off-to-kill-time kind of game, where auto-attacking can handle most content assuming you build your deck(s) properly. My main interest with it is to see where they take the story, as while somewhat contrived, it seems to be SE trying to give the Warrior of Light a specific story that FF1 didn't deliver despite him now being the mascot character of the game.
RK is kind of that awkward mix between bland and frustrating that somehow sucks people in with nostalgia. If RNG hates you on pulls, things can suck. If RNG smiles, some fights can be hilariously easy. Aside from the earlier mentioned ability limits, the game being so S/L-reliant on harder content is something I'll continue to give it a strike for. Frankly, if you've held this long, I'd say you're not missing out, as it doesn't even really try to tell its own story, either.
Exvius is probably the closest to a traditional RPG of the lot, but the character pull RNG can still be pretty frustrating. Fortunately, having some good friends can help overcome a lot of hurdles in early/mid content. When it comes to events, they're not really imaginative and the grind types are the worst. The TM system is also something I feel needs drastically overhauled, but the whales will obviously argue against that.
I guess they've got their pros and cons, so I'd say it depends more on what you're looking for.
I started Granblue last month on a whim and have been playing it casually as a F2P player and it doesn't really feel like you actually need to spend any money to advance. Obviously, money can net better characters faster but you still need to farm content to get more powerful and you'll readily realize why it's earned the nickname Grindblue. The anime tropes are in full swing when it comes to the story so you can more or less guess what's going to happen.
Did a 20 orb pull with my remaining lunatic orbs, got Ephraim, not too shabby. I was looking into starting granblue, then i found out to be jp onry, can't dl on my ios version, and tried to register through chrome apps, and i couldn't register so i gave up.
Granblue has a full English option just no NA play store support. You're better off just playing it in chrome browser over using the app anyways though.
One massive complaint that i have with the game, however, is the arena duel doesn't let you know what stage you're going to be thrown to. I swear i've lost so many advanced matches because of the stupid lava stage because infantry units can't go over, and an enemy takumi has a field day with my team. I wish i had takumi.
as a takumi owner I can confirm he's p great

as a non-Takumi owner with only one good ranged pull I can confirm he's pretty damn annoying to face
New Update adds 6 Heroes, 15.3MB
Eldigan and Lachesis (Genealogy of the Holy War) | Reinhardt and Olwen (Thracia 776)
Klein (The Binding Blade) | Sanaki (Radiant Dawn)
Ability inheritance is also supposedly coming this month.
15 gigs? Wow my poor phone lol
No details yet, but hints are that the source of the skill will either be unusable, or outright gone (i.e. sent home).
Hnnnngh. Got a set of 3 grey and 2 green orbs. No Hector or Takumi but scored a 4* Kagero. Time to slay some bitches.
