idk, I think there has to be a point where you figure tolerance of the antics correlates to acceptance of them. If your hope is that some day more moderate republicans will return to majority, I don't really see that being achieved with one slipping into a seat here and there while the troublemakers persist/get reelected. Repeated crushing defeats are the only way I see some semblance of sanity returning to the right, and I'm talking 10+ years of them having the power to do jack shit. Without that, I see no compulsion for them to reform, while the allotted time span would ideally claim some of the older ghouls to death or near-incapacitation.
Of course, the other half of this equation is for the left to get shit done and successfully. Some issues you'll never turn people on like the bible thumpers and abortion, but things like the economy and healthcare don't quite have that baggage.
