They're not gonna stop the nom. They're gonna ram this through otherwise they have to start over from scratch.

Plus getting Kavanaughed doesn't have the same ring to it as getting borked.

The woman, who has asked not to be identified, first approached Democratic lawmakers in July, shortly after Trump nominated Kavanaugh. The allegation dates back to the early nineteen-eighties, when Kavanaugh was a high-school student at Georgetown Preparatory School, in Bethesda, Maryland, and the woman attended a nearby high school. In the letter, the woman alleged that, during an encounter at a party, Kavanaugh held her down, and that he attempted to force himself on her. She claimed in the letter that Kavanaugh and a classmate of his, both of whom had been drinking, turned up music that was playing in the room to conceal the sound of her protests, and that Kavanaugh covered her mouth with his hand. She was able to free herself. Although the alleged incident took place decades ago and the three individuals involved were minors, the woman said that the memory had been a source of ongoing distress for her, and that she had sought psychological treatment as a result.
LMAO THEY HAD THIS SHIT READY THEY FUCKING KNEW
"Look at all of these people that didn't have a crime committed against them. This guy clearly couldn't have done it."
"If this guy is a murderer how come there's all these alive people saying he didn't murder them?"
350,000,000,000 denizens of the known universe wrote in to report that they were unaffected by the infinity snap, indicating that there's no way Thanos could have wiped out half of the universe.
i almost intractably err towards believing the victims and take rape accusations as seriously as any here, but an anonymous accusation is as weak as it gets, and worse than lying about such has been done in politics to derail a candidate. Feinstein's behavior (which of course neither implicates nor exonerates the accuser) was also pure garbage pail kid, sitting on the accusation for months, neither demanding further substantiation nor forwarding it to law enforcement, before publicly referring it to the FBI at the most politically convenient time all the while claiming she didn't want it to go public. Kavanaugh doesn't deserve to be confirmed, but this is not the reason why. if the accusation is true he deserves to go to jail rather than sit on the nation's highest court, but derailing an appointment through means as insubstantial as an anonymous letter is a dangerous precedent.
Feinstein literally sat on this since july and someone leaked this out. It got fed up the chain from a sitting member of the house.
After the shit that went down with Anita Hill I'd be hard pressed to see any benefit in going before the senate judiciary. This makes Feinstein look extremely bad. This is a gift to DeLeon.
Also republicans had a letter signed by 65 women ready to fucking go when this dropped. This shit has weight.
My only issue is the prepared response. To me that suggests the (R)s did their homework and found something. It'd be hard to get 65 women from 40 years ago together that fast to write that letter.
I would be quick to agree with AG in this instance, if not for that Republican response letter. Those things don't exist absent the party being fully aware a sexual assault allegation could surface.

If the accusation was in July, there's no reason to believe that it wasn't leaked to the repubs. earlier than it was leaked to us and they just began preparing at that point.
i wonder though if the response letter was prepared after the rumors of sexual impropriety started swirling around the Hill once Feinstein began her dance of 'i don't want to make it personal but yes i'm forwarding this letter to the FBI days before we vote to confirm after sitting on it for months', rather than on account of some Trump-team vetting that unearthed the allegation multiple FBI background checks had failed to. the document the women signed is a brief three-paragraph note that could've been thrown together in 10 minutes and not much more than that would have been needed to cruise Kavanaugh's Facebook and ask every female high school acquaintance in sight if they would want to sign. what the hell kind of teenage boy at an all-male Jesuit boarding school even knows 65 girls beyond the most fleeting of interactions. but i digress.
the pro-Kavanaugh letter is tone-deaf doggerel either way, rapists don't assault every woman they encounter, but i don't see it as the smoking gun most of you seem to. i think it more probable Republicans got wind of what the Dems were going to do before we did and prepared accordingly.
Feinstein is hardly the only person to have the letter. It was written by a secondhand source to a House member, who gave it to Feinstein. And clearly some Republicans knew about the allegation ahead of time as well.
I assume someone in that chain got fed up with the inaction. I wonder how Farrow got it, he's the go-to reporter for this type of stuff.

I also have to imagine that at some point in SC vetting process someone sits down and says "ok, tell me everything" so they can prepare for stuff that might come out. I wonder if Kavanaugh is claiming this is "the first time he's ever heard of this accusation" or if it's been around a while.
lol... 65 women who knew him in high school
He went to an all boys school. They must have scrounged.
Oh, the alleged friend of his who turned up the music to drown out her objections is a writer. Here's a sample:

Kavanaugh's unnamed accuser is unnamed no longer and she brought out some receipts.
At least Clarence won't have to be the only publicly known sexual harasser on the supreme court anymore!
brave woman, i'm glad she had the courage to step forward. think the public declaration combined with her polygraph test + therapist notes make the allegations far more likely true than not. hope it's enough to stop the nomination but as ever that's up to Susan and Lisa.
