Well the short answer is, Democrats arent stalling until elections. Fords isn't either. She quite literally said shell testify next week, just not on monday. The elections arent until november. Saying this is a stall tactic is patently false when it could all be over by next week.

Shoot, it will be over by next week regardless of who gets their way. Repubs can end this on monday, or fords can end it by Friday at the latest. In both cases it's over way before elections. and therefore for that reason that excuse is trash.

Again, the only ones making a story about stalling is Republicans because they dont want his escalating any further. They're trying to muddy the waters when all they need to do is do the same thing they did in 91; have the FBI do a very quick investigation, hold a single day hearing, and done. The precedent is there already, but yet again another precedent is being broken present day America.

Not in total agreement there. Delays benefit the Democrats more than they benefit the Republicans. If memory serves me right, this literally only came to light within what, 3-4 days of his nomination being confirmed? Booker had his Spartacus meme moment, Kamala Harris did what I found to be her own assinine routine, everything they've thrown in his direction couldn't delay anything, and at the very last moment there's a sexual abuse allegation, which does manage to delay things. Like I said before, I'm a little iffy on the FBI, but I don't mind them investigating, in fact I'd be happy to give it another 4 weeks. I think it'd be better for the country if it was over faster, but whatever, thorough > quick, within reason. I -do- find it interesting that you think it'll be over by next Friday, because I don't know that. My only agreement with you there is that the Republicans are pushing for things for Monday a little too fast, and I'm sure they'll agree to Thursday, but you may be right and this may be a bias blind spot for me, because I truly don't feel the Republicans are throwing up roadblocks, I feel the demands being thrown up by Ford's attorney are potential roadblocks - maybe more like speed bumps. Either way, elections are in November, there's like 55-60 days before then, and I'd be fine with taking 40 of 'em if that's whats required.

To your "what are the odds" question - they both grew up in the same town and went to complementary same-sex high schools. The odds that they would know one another are the same as the odds of anyone from the same school knowing anybody else.

Kavanaugh's mother was a judge. It's reasonable to assume that he would pursue a legal career. His path took him into the upper echelons of the GOP ranks and they groomed him for higher appointments. If you're looking for "what are the odds that out of everybody in the world he just happened to assault THIS woman," that's not even a real question. I recognize that you're legitimately reaching for something here but odds are a meaningless consideration here.

Maybe, maybe not. Things happen in life to some people and not to others, and you're right, I am reaching for something, and I don't know if trying to calculate the odds is the best way to get there. You can take Kavanaugh, Judge and Ford out of the situation. I try to think of it as three people were involved, two are in agreement, one isn't in agreement, and I'm not capable of knowing what happened, what tools can I use to get to the truth? This is why I'm a really huge fan of truth in general, even if it's painful. Being uncertain, not knowing is a special kind of shitty feeling I'd prefer to avoid, like all my friends who shrug and avoid politics because of this stuff. These are not pleasant thoughts to have.

I only say it'll be over next week cause kavanaigh said he'll testify again, and fords said she'll testify next week, just not on monday. If this takes longer than a week its cause Republicans stalled it, or the FBI got involved and needed more time (this is unlikely cause the last time it happened it took 3 days to finish).

Like the difference is fairly clear here. When someone enters a discussion and approaches it as "well all of you are idiots, and I'm laughing at you for being such idiots, because my opinions are RIGHT and only an idiot would think otherwise," that's not seeking to seriously engage in the conversation. All of this has been "yeah I don't really feel as strongly for Ford as some of you seem to, although maybe I do? I have questions about these complicated issues."

Oh, and thanks both Day and Salodin ^^ I like to talk, and actually discuss things, I don't like one liners. And also Tyche, cuz I haven't talked to him since we were in the same LS a loooooooong time ago. But I prefer to talk, because I don't think most people are crazy or bad people or evil, and you only get to see their logic and why they think that way if you have a discussion. I imagine it would be pretty simple for people to see some of my thoughts and instantly jump to the opposing, logic-backed but way too emotional response. Trust me, I've got strong emotional responses to all this crap too, but that doesn't help a discussion and trying to be articulate.

And nope, haven't gotten to the podcasts yet. Literally went to bed, got up and there was a zillion threads, and listening in the background while I'm trying to respond means I'm not focusing my attention, but I will actually get to it.
