D2 will have Quickplay and Competitive modes, Luke Smith tells Game Informer."Quickplay is the place where you're going to find more party games - Control, Clash, Supremacy."https://twitter.com/CrucibleRadio/st...99876874915850"Competitive play has two modes - one we're not talking about right now, and the other is Countdown. These are objective modes..."
And yet the word ranked is apparently never mentioned, so no idea if it's just names or will actually mean something.
Still, it is a little disappointing that the "main themes" of the series aren't going to be addressed in their first game with a substantial story to tell. I hope that's not the case, but it would be disappointing for them to just never actually cover the major elements and just do side stories. It's not like a TV show, where you can have several episodes going on their own stories each week and then come back to the main thread at the end of the season -- there's years and years between these games, so it's unlikely we'll ever get around to that stuff if things go as they are.
Nonetheless, it's going to be a story told with more purpose than the first game. Regardless of what that story is about, I'm excited to see it play out.
Destiny 2 dropping September 6th on Playstation.
EDIT: and XBONE (according to Luke Smith)
Takeaways from the new trailer:
Gary has no helm.
Enemies speaking English reminds me of Halo 2 -- so hopefully we get some fun grunt-esque conversations as well.
Taken are back

If this game turns out to be good, I'll gladly wait extra time to not have to play at 30 FPS.
Their engine sucks or Sony forced them to have framerate parity.
Or it's the simpler explanation that they didn't want XB1X players to have an advantage over XB1 players -- which, btw, is in line with their philosophy from back in the PS3/360 days.
They have no problem with PC players having framerate advantages over other PC players. It's also not like they couldn't scale down the resolution to just hit 60 FPS on Xbox/PS4. If Halo 5 can do it and look like it does, Destiny really doesn't have an excuse. "But muh physics sims" is also a joke when you realize Battlefield 1 is doing destruction and bullet flight and still hits 60.
Either their engine sucks or somebody pressured them into parity. Either way the game should run at 60 FPS on all platforms and it doesn't, which is a failure that lies with Bungie and Bungie alone.

The more they talk about the story the more wary I am of the game and the franchise, honestly. If Luke Smith feels like they "wrapped up" the Exo Stranger in vanilla Destiny story, I don't really know what to say.
PC it is
