Maybe it's jut me but I'm having a hard time understanding what items CAN and CANT go past 265. I feel like every purple I get is 265 and I got lucky to get a 270 exotic. I really just don't understand how to go past that. When will I get armor that ladders me to 270, then 275 up to 280 etc?

Basically all rare/legendary engrams and vendor packages will soft cap at 265 Power (270 if they come with a randomized +5 mod) and remain at a minimum of 6-7 power levels below your current max. So for instance if you manage to break the wall to 280+ your blues and faction packages will start to have 266+ power. The only things that bypass this 265 soft cap are exotic engrams, "Powerful" engrams, and specific quest rewards such as the planet quest lines.

Essentially the only way to make progress beyond 270 (265+5) is by doing the weekly rewards and RNG exotic engram drops.
