Transformers: Bumblebee (December 21, 2018) - Prequel

Well they did a bit on the first 1. They had to make some changes, like initially Volkswagon didn't want BumbleBee to be a bug due to violence, which was what that whole used car lot spoof was for, kind of an FU to them. Megatron changing to a gun wouldn't work too well in a live action movie either. It's when Michael Bay decided to do Michael Bay things like making racist autobots, changing personalities of transformers (FU at Soundwave executing someone, and Shockwave being a bounty hunter), among many other things that it quickly became complete and utter dog shit.

And that's why the first one was the only watchable one.

Beyond Prime and Bee, none of them looked remotely like G1, from what I remember. At the very least, Megatron and Starscream should have looked like themselves.

Well you have to remember what was in G1 doesn’t exist anymore. Ironhide as a mini van or ratchet as an ambulance van wouldn’t work as they don’t even exist anymore. I was actually fine with the vehicle changes to them, bumblebee and jazz. I was more pissed with how one of the best autobots gets brutally murdered with next to no dialog, then the constant changes of their personalities compared to G1.

Again, I don't care about their transformation. When they are standing upright, almost all of them should look like their original designs. Next to none did.

All they had to do, from day 1, was copy the fucking G1 look and feel.

Would it have been nice if they had looked like their G1 counterparts? Sure, but that was not going to save these movies. These were really bad movies for numerous reasons.

Totally agree, but that is step 1 (and 2 and 3) of getting it right.

No, step 1 is remove Bay. Honestly, the Transformers have gone through so many designs over the years that their designs in the movies were not that big a problem. Don't get me wrong, it would have been infinitely easier to follow the action if the characters did not look like an earthquake struck a scrapyard, but that's a symptom of Bay's bad camera-work more than anything. I've been a fan of Transformers long enough to remember the Truck not Monkey complaints, and we know how that ended up. Character designs are not the biggest issue if you can tell a good story.

Just got out from seeing this. By far this blows all the bayformer movies out of the water. The G1 models all looked amazing. I really now want A Megatron/Optimus origin that ends where bumblebee starts.

Best part of the movie, for me at least, was:

The nod to the animated movie through the power of music. I wasn't the only one in the theater who sang "YOU'VE GOT THE TOUCH, YOU'VE GOT THE POWER!!!" when it came on

I guess I'll have to rent this when it comes out. I swore I would never see another Transformers movie if Micheal Bay was involved.
